    His Social Security number, 476-07-3697, was issued in Minnesota. Last benefit and last residence were “not specified.”

    In the 1910 census, he lived in New Trier, Cook County, Illinois.

    He attended Andover Academy, Andover, Massachusetts.

    He registered for the draft as Hazen Curtis Pratt on May 31, 1917, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge where he was a student. He was single. He claimed to have had previous military service with a “Naval Marine Force.” He was tall and of medium build with blue-grey eyes and brown hair.

    He enlisted as a Seaman, 2nd Class, in the Naval Reserve and was commissioned as an Ensign on March 9, 1918. He was a junior officer in the Naval Reserve, and later in the U.S. Marine Corps, from at least June of 1918 through the end of the war. (He was made Lt. J.G. on August 27, 1918.) He was stationed at Miami with the Marine Aviation Detachment. According to his gravestone, he was a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves during World War I.

    His 1922 thesis for his B.S. at MIT was entitled “The design of pneumatic cylinder brake for an aircraft arresting gear.”

    He and his wife Jean arrived in New York on June 8, 1925, aboard the S.S. Fort Victoria which had sailed from Bermuda two days earlier. At that time, the couple lived in Rochester, New York, at 189 Lake Avenue. (This may have been their honeymoon.)

    In the 1930 census, he and his family lived in Rochester, New York, at 233 Sherbourne Road. He was a mechanical engineer for the Rochester Bureau of Municipal Research. They owned their house, worth $20,000, and they had an Irish woman, age 20, as a servant.

    The California Passenger Lists show Hazen, Jean, Hugh, and Elizabeth arriving in San Francisco aboard the S.S. President Polk on 17 Jul 1934. The ship had sailed from New York on June 28th. The family lived in Rochester, New York, on 233 San Gabriel Drive.

    According to Millie Pratt Giddings’s obit, “Hazen Curtis Pratt {was} a founding member of the former Nob Hill Ski Club in Minneapolis. Hazen was a talented engineer trained at MIT, and the principal original designer of the Hoffman electrical enclosures still manufactured in Anoka.”

    Hazen married Jean MCLEAN about 1925, and was divorced in 1939 in Manatee County, Florida. Jean (daughter of Hugh MCLEAN and Minnie GATES) was born on 28 Jul 1900 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York; died on 19 Feb 1979 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    He is mentioned as Hugh Pratt (no wife’s name listed), surviving stepson of Mildred Giddings, in Mildred’s obit.

    An article in the Binghamton (N.Y.) Press, dated April 22, 1946, announced:

    Oneonta - Mr. and Mrs. William W. Watkins of 46 Elm Street have announced the engagement of their daughter, Kate Louise Watkins, to Hugh McLean Pratt, son of Hazen C. Pratt of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Jean McLean Pratt of Rochester.

    Miss Watkins, whose father is superintendent of the City Water Department, is a student at the University of Rochester. She attended Oneonta High School and Northfield School for Girls.

    Mr. Pratt is a graduate of Avon School in Connecticut, and formerly was enrolled in the Navy’s V-12 program. He also is attending the University of Rochester where he will enter the College of Medicine in the fall.

    (”Avon School” probably refers to Avon Old Farms School, a private boys’ high school in Avon, Connecticut.)

    Hugh McLean Pratt, 87, died July 1, 2013, while visiting his daughter and her family in New Hampshire.

    He was born in Rochester, N.Y., on May 28, 1926, to Jean and Hazen Pratt. He graduated from the University of Rochester Medical School in 1950 and went on to receive further training in internal medicine. From 1952-1955 he served in the Navy as a flight surgeon. In 1955, Hugh and his wife, Kit, moved to North Canton, Ohio. From 1960 until 1997 Hugh practiced internal medicine at the North Canton Medical Foundation where he was beloved by his patients. From 1997 to 2001 he was a part-time Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Canton.

    Hugh is remembered by his patients for his care and great kindness and by his family for his love of nature, birding, and photography. He was active in the development of the Wilderness Center in Wilmot and served as treasurer for Meals on Wheels in North Canton for many years. At the time of his death Hugh was very actively involved in the Copeland Oaks and Sebring Presbyterian Church communities.

    Hugh's wife of 58 years, Kit, died in 2005. He is survived by his daughters, Kate Wonacott of Albuquerque, N.M., Margaret Hagen and her husband, Karl, of Lyndeborough, N.H.; four grandchildren, Brian Stoneburner, Jean Lydon, Zachary Hagen and Kyle Hagen; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Stoneburner, Andrew Stoneburner, Katie Lydon and Zoe Lydon; a sister, Betty Stewart; and a brother, William Pratt and his wife, Dana. Hugh was predeceased by his son, Hugh McLean Pratt, Jr., and by his daughter, Charlotte P. Stoneburner.

    A memorial service to celebrate Hugh's life will be held on Monday, July 22 at 2 p.m. in Sebring, Ohio at the Copeland Oaks Retirement Community (Beeghly Building Chapel). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to North Canton Meals on Wheels, 7707 Market Avenue, North Canton, Ohio.

    Beloved wife and mother, she was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Rochester, N.Y., the oldest daughter of Hugh and Kate Pratt.

    She graduated high school from Stuart Hall in Virginia and went on to graduate in 1970 from the University of Kentucky in Physical Therapy. For over 29 years she worked as a physical therapist in various hospitals and nursing homes in the Youngstown area.

    She was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and a member of the Cornerstone Chapel in Medina and was active in several Bible study groups. Her interests also included handwork, gardening, reading, and her family.

    She was preceded in death by her mother, Kate Pratt; her brother, Hugh M. Pratt Jr.; and her daughter, Jennifer Kelley Stoneburner.

    She is survived by her husband, David D. Cline; her father, Dr. Hugh Pratt of Sebring; her son, Brian (Sheila) Stoneburner of North Jackson; her daughter, Jean (Ethan) Lydon of Medina; sisters Kate L. Wonacott of New Mexico and Margaret Hagen of New Hampshire; grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew Stoneburner, Christine and Lucas Cline, and Kaitlin and Zoe Lydon; and uncles, aunts, and nephews.

    Burial will be at North Jackson Township Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
