Gilbert was a janitor in an office building. Lillie was an apartment manager. In the 1935 Florida state census, he and his wife lived at 220 S.W. 31st Avenue in Miami, Dade County. In the 1940 census, he, as Gilbert Digen, and Lilli Belle lived in Dade County, Florida. He was a night watchman. He was a high school graduate, his wife had two years of high school.
