From a Wenschlag family history:
Richard Henry, the eldest child of Emil and Helena Wenschlag, was born in 1894 at Claire City, Robert County, South Dakota. He married Esther Johnson of Beauchamp, Sask., on November 15, 1917. (Beauchamp post office was about four miles west of the present village of Spalding.) The Rev. Bollefer, Lutheran pastor of Humboldt, officiated. They lived briefly at Humboldt and then at Watson where he was employed as a carpenter. Their first child, Walter, died on December 17, 1918, at Watson during the influenza epidemic. He was six months old. The family moved to Melfort in the early 1920s and to Calgary in 1936. He worked as a carpenter there until his death in January of 1960 at the age of 66 years. He was survived by his wife, Esther, three sons, Erwin, Norman, and Arthur, and a daughter, Ruby.
