Ernest M. Veazie, 77,1321 So. Burlington, formerly of Maine Township, died Sunday, Nov. 27, at Lake Region Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, with Rev. James Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Cemetery, Fergus Falls.

One of four children of Henry and Randi (Toso) Veazie, he was born Oct. 14,1906, in Maine Township. He grew up in Maine Township and attended School District #22.

As a young man, he worked in the construction business. Then he became a farmer in Maine Township. In the mid-'30s, he was a self-employed truck driver, specifically transferring livestock between this area and St. Paul. Along with his trucking business, he operated a filling station, which later became known as Rancho-Villa in Maine Township.

On June 30, 1945, he and Verna Thorson were married in Minneapolis. In 1951, they moved to Underwood, where they owned and operated the Corner Kitchen. They also owned the Mobile Gasoline Station, which later became the Service Oil Company in Underwood. Prior to their move to Underwood, he was involved with the amatuer baseball program in this area. He also worked as a substitute mail carrier.

Next, he leased his equipment to International Transport Company of Rochester, Minn., and drove coast to coast and across Canada for that company. In 1958, they moved to Fergus Falls, where he continued trucking for International Transport. When he stopped working for International Trasnport, he drove for the the following trucking firms: Ott, Hairing, and Krog. He also drove the Rehabilitation Industries bus in Fergus Falls before retiring in 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; a son, Gary of Wayzata; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Helen Iverson, Fergus Falls.

Visitation at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, will begin Tuesday evening, continue all day Wednesday and resume one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
