Ruth was born on December 19, 1931, in Janesville, WI, to John and Nellie Thompson. Ruth graduated from Janesville High School in 1950 and married Merrill Paynter Jr. of Clinton, WI, in 1951. Together they raised six children and worked a dairy and hog farm north of Clinton. Merrill died in 1979 of cancer. Ruth married Kenneth Byerley of Clinton in 1989. Ruth and Ken (Rufus and Uncle Fudd) founded Clinton Caring Clowns Ministry and worked together to support and keep track of their joined family of 14 children, and their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth was blessed with many talents and gifts, the greatest being her gentle, positive, and faith-filled approach to life. Her world was filled with joy, laughter, and unconditional love for her family, no matter what trials crossed her path.
