Halvord (Halvor) Oleson Christiansmoen was born January 21, 1821 at Kristiansmoen, Valdres, Sor Aurdal, Oppland, Norway to parents Ole Halverson Steinsrud and Gunhild Halsteinsdatter, the second of their five children. Believe Halvord may have emigrated to Wisconsin in April of 1853, then possibly returned to Norway to accompany his family when they emigrated. He is found on the ship's list for April 1865, ship Peruvian, arriving at Quebec: #528 Males: Ole Halverson age 70; Halvord Olsen 44, Halstein Olsen 43, Abraham Olsen 32 (tailor), Ole Olsen 34, Ole Johnson 37, Halstein Everson 34, Gulbrand Pedersen 21, Halstein Pedersen 18, Hans (or Maud?) Olsen 31 Matron, Ole Olson 5 (child) and Gulbrand Olsen 2. #529 Females: Gunhild Halsteinsdatter 65, matchmaker, Karine Olsdatter 24, tailor, Gunnild Erich 44, Maria Haraldsdatter 19, Guri Olsdatter 24, Guire Levorsdatter 28 matron, Gunnild Olsdatter infant child. Halvord married Kari Halsteinsdatter Garthushaugen on June 14, 1850 at Oppland, Norway. The couple had at least six children: Ole, Inger, Mary, Helena, Betsy and Kari. They may have had other children. Found in the June 6, 1860 census living on farmland at York, Green, Wisconsin: Post office: Moscow. $800 in real estate; $150 in personal assets.
