    • dwfrench1 says Gulbrand was born in Vang on 15 Feb 1842 and baptized on 20 Feb. His parents were Ole Gulbrandsen Opdal (1814-1900) and Gunvor Knudsdatter Lunde (1820-1891).

      In the 1880 census, he was a farmer in Silver Lake, Iowa.

      Gulbrand “Gilbert” O. Sorbo died very suddenly at the home of his son Carl in Kiester last Sunday, May 15, 1921, at about 11 a.m. following a paralytic stroke. The old gentleman suffered a similar stroke several months ago which was the first attack of the kind. Of late he has made his home with his son Carl.

      Gilbert O. Sorbo was born in Valdres, Norway, on Feb. 10, 1842 being at the time of death 79 years, 3 months and 5 days old. He came to this country with his parents and seven siblings in 1862 when he was 19 years old and located at Deer Creek, Iowa.

      He was united in marriage with Anna Anderson at Deer Creek when he was 30 years of age. There were born to this union 12 children, of whom seven, together with the wife have preceded him in death. The surviving children are: Mrs. Peter(Evelyn) Sevley, Mrs. Arnold (Caroline) Berg and Carl Sorbo, all of Kiester; Mrs. Eli (Kristina) Hoiseth of Rushford and Mrs. Henry (Julia) Wangsness of Emmons, Minn.

      The deceased leaves three brothers, three sisters and 23 grandchildren. He was a kind and indulgent father and a good citizen and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

      The funeral was held on Wednesday, May 25, 1921, at 12 o’clock at the son’s home in Kiester, conducted by Rev. Lee of the local Norwegian church, after which a service was held at the Silver Lake Lutheran church seven miles east of Emmons, conducted by Rev. H. E. Fosnoss of Northwood, Iowa. Interment was in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
