  Notes	Marith’s birth record clearly names her mother as Sigerid Andersdatter Bergeeiet and her father as Asbjørn Andersen Steile. She was each parent’s second illegitimate child. The sponsors at Marith’s baptism were Haaver and Bøye Leite, Ole Tostensen Berge, Guri Leite, and Berith Andersdatter Steile. (Liethe or Liete is a part of the Berge farm in Høre.) Haaver was the member of the parish who would be responsible for raising the child. In the 1865 census, she was a maid for the country merchant Peder P Odnæs and his wife Caroline. Marit was shown, incorrectly, as born in 1849. In the 1900 census, she had had 12 children, only 6 of whom were still living. She had come to the U.S. in 1871.
