  Notes	An article in the Duluth News-Tribune, Februarly 23, 1916, shows that Orris was a member of the Biwabik volunteer fire department. He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Kinney in St. Louis County. He was a locomotive engineer for the Deau Iron Company and the “Deau mine near Kinney.” He was married with one child. He was described as tall and of medium build with grey eyes and light brown hair. In the 1920 census, he and Alma and their two children were living in Great Scott Twp, St. Louis County. Orris was a stationary engineer for an iron mine. In the 1930 census, the family lived in Missabe Mountain Twp, St. Louis County. Orris worked in an iron mine. He was not a veteran. In the 1940 census, Orris (indexed as Gane), Alma, and their grandson Peter and “granddaughter” Dennis Wannebo lived in Biwabik. Orris and Alma lived in the same house in 1935. Peter Wannebo had lived in Virginia in St. Louis County in 1935. Orris’s occupation was shop work in an iron ore mine.
