  Notes	He came to Otter Tail County in 1871 when he began homesteading land in Oscar Twp. By the time he died, his farm was at least 320 acres in size. Called Hans, a farmer in Oscar Twp, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, in that state’s 1895 census. He had been in the state for 28 years and part of this enumeration district for 22 years and 2 months. In 1896, at which time he was living in Oscar Twp and was considered by some “a man of wealth”, he had not paid his taxes to Otter Tail County for two or three years claiming that Otter Tail County had no jurisdiction. He brought suit against the state claiming his land was in Wilkin County, not Otter Tail County, based upon what he considered the improper inclusion of his land in Otter Tail County in 1872. The case went to the state Supreme Court which affirmed the lower court ruling that the land (in Section 6, Township 134 N, Range 44 W) was, indeed, properly within Otter Tail County. Olena must have been is 2nd wife because his household in 1895 contained sons Oscar, 20, and Otten, 14. Lars had a son, Ole Honrud (wife Lisse in 1900), who also farmed in Oscar Twp, Otter Tail County, and was Hans’s next-door neighbor at the time of the 1900 census. Ole also had a daughter named Anne who was born a couple of years after Lars’s Anne. That Anne is sometimes confused with Lars’s Anne (e.g. Find A Grave). Ole’s wife Lisse was born Dec 1872 in Norway. Ole was born in Minnesota in July of 1869. According to the 1900 census, he was Lars Honrud, born in Norway in September of 1847. Lars’s wife at the time of the 1900 census was Olive, born in Norway in July of 1864, obviously not the mother of Ole or Hans. Ole’s mother seems to have been Maren Johnsdatter Skolrud. In the 1870 census, Lars, as Lars Oleson, and Mary and infant son Ole (10 months old) lived in Black Hammer Twp, Houston County, Minnesota. Lars and Mary were both 25 and both had been born in Norway.
