  Notes	In the 1940 census, he was employed as a book binder for a WPA project at the St. Cloud teachers’ college. He and his wife and their two children lived in a rented apartment in St. Cloud. He and his son Donald Dane Riley were killed in a traffic accident. The Painters Union formed an honorary escort for the joint funeral. The accident occurred late Sunday when their car collided with a Great Northern passenger train at a grade crossing in St. Cloud. The car was thrown 40 feet by the impact and the two victims were thrown about 100 feet. Gary Riley, age 4, was also in the car and was hospitalized “with a good chance to recover,” doctors said.
