  Notes	She is probably the Eliza Ann Burridge whose birth was registered in the July-Sep period of 1871 in the Pancras district of London, Middlesex. At the time of her marriage to Charles Carr, she was a 20 year-old spinster living at 228 Millfield Road. (She was actually 17.) In the 1905 Minnesota state census, she was Ada Carr, a nurse, age “over 21”, living with eight other people at 2735 Hennepin Avenue. She had been in the state for 9 years but had been at her present enumeration district for only a month. In that same census, her three youngest children, Charles, 12, Francis, 9, and Ruth, 6, were living in Minneapolis with a large number of other young children in what must have been an orphanage at 3200 Stevens Avenue. (It was the Stevens Avenue Home for Children and Aged Women.) In the 1909 Minneapolis city directory, she is Mrs. Ada Carr, nurse, living at 904 E 18th Street. In the 1910 census, Eliza A. Carr, now a 38 year-old widow (perhaps actually a divorcee), was living with all of her 5 children at 904 East 18th Street in Minneapolis in an apartment that she rented in a multi-family dwelling. Her occupation is shown as nurse, industry is illegible. A notice in the want ad section of the Minneapolis Tribune’s 28 Apr 1910 edition says that she “will not be responsible for any debts that have been or may be contracted by Sarah, May or Charles Carr. Mrs. Ada Carr.” In February of 1915, when Frances went missing for five days, Eliza lived at 3014 Chicago. In the 1920 census, Bill is listed as the adopted son of 48 year-old Ada Marsh, a widow living with her two daughters, one granddaughter, Bill (age 4 and 8/12) and two female lodgers at 1619 Park Avenue. The two daughters are Frances Mincke, age 24, and Ruth Kirbach, age 21. Ada and Frances are shown as widows; Ruth is shown as married. Ruth is shown as having a daughter, less than a year old, also named Ada. The older Ada was born in England; she and Frances emigrated in 1898 or 1899 and were naturalized in the first decade of the 1900s. Frances was born in Canada. Ruth was born in Minnesota. Little Ada's dad was born in Illinois as was Bill's father. Bill's mother is shown as born in Canada. Frances's occupation is shown as "practical nurse" in a "private home." I can't make out the older Ada's occupation. Ruth is not shown as having an occupation. In the 1930 census, William C. Marsh, 14, is living at 1619 Park Avenue South with his grandmother, Eliza A. Marsh, 57, a widow, his aunt (Eliza’s daughter), Ruth L. Anderson, 31, his aunt’s husband, Arthur J. Anderson, 36, his cousin, Ada R. Korbach, 11, and 3 “roomers”: Cecil J. Betz, Bruno A. Hanson, and Edna Hander or Harder. Eliza is the head of the household. She pays $55/month rent and the household has a radio. Eliza and her parents were born in England. Eliza was first married at age 17. Ruth was born in Minnesota and was first married at age 18. Arthur was born in Minnesota, his parents in Sweden, and was first married at age 34. William’s father was born in Illinois and his mother in Canada. Ada’s father was also born in Illinois and her mother (presumably Ruth) was born in Minnesota. Eliza appears to have come to the U.S. in 1895, is a naturalized citizen of the U.S., and is a superintendent of some sort of registry. Ruth is a beauty operator in a beauty shop. Arthur is a dentist and appears to be a veteran of the World War. In the 1934 Minneapolis city directory, she is Ada E Marsh, widow of Geo, superintendent, Nurses Aid & Bureau, residing at 3539 Dupont Ave N. In the 1936 Minneapolis city directory, she is E Ada Marsh, widow of Geo, nurse for A G Anderson, and residing at 3539 Dupont Ave N. In the 1937 city directory, she is E Ada Marsh, widow of Geo E, residing at 2114 Russell Ave N. In the 1938 city directory, she is Eliza A Marsh, widow of Geo, residing at 2114 Russell Ave N. In the 1939 city directory, she is Eliza A Marsh, wifow of Geo, residing at 4308 34th Ave S. In the 1940 city directory, she is Ada E Marsh, widow of Geo, residing at 2642 Colfax Ave S. In the 1940 census, as Liza Ada March, she is a 69 year-old widow, a nurse but no longer employed, living at 2642 Colfax Avenue in south Minneapolis. She had had four years of college. She is not listed in the 1941 city directory. She died at the home of her daughter Ruth who lived at 4308 34th Avenue S in Minneapolis and was the informant for Eliza’s death certificate. The death certificate said that Eliza’s usual residence was 2642 Colfax Avenue S. Eliza was a retired nurse and was the widow of George Ernest Marsh.
