    Notes
    • Lloyd Julian Loe passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, surrounded by his family at Rosewood on Broadway, having reached the age of 88.

Lloyd was born June 9, 1923 in Maynard, MN. His parents, Gilbert I. Loe and Josepha (Johnson) Loe operated a small dairy farm in Maynard. He went to Maynard Grade School and High School. During his school years, he participated in all sports, and worked on various farms in the area.

In 1945, he enlisted in the Army Air Force, training at Shepard Field in Texas and Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. From there he was sent to an airbase in Tokyo, Japan. Lloyd was assigned to F.E.A.F. Headquarters Squadron, where he worked in procurement until his honorable discharge in 1948.

He met and married his longtime pen pal, Arline Anne Lenart "Kitten", in 1949. Lloyd worked for Minnesota Mining Manufacturing Co. in St. Paul for three years. He then went to work for the Fairbanks Morse Scale Company for 34 years. He worked as a field engineer; his job took him and his family from St. Paul, MN, to Fargo, ND, then Billings, MT, and on to Overland Park, KS, and then back to Fargo, ND in 1969. He sold, serviced, and installed heavy capacity scale equipment and received national honors for designing and selling. Lloyd was a volunteer for Hospice of the Red River Valley for 20 plus years, where he found his passion for caregiving.

He enjoyed woodworking projects with Arline and grandchildren, making many toys. He was up at 5 A.M. every morning with his bible, then off to The Powers Hotel for coffee with his buddies. He was an avid reader all his life, and read every Louis L'Amour novel written, many twice, until his sight began to fail at which time he switched to audiobooks. He loved days with "Kitten" in their backyard swing, watching CNN, The Minnesota Twins, and The Minnesota Vikings.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Arline; his children: Pamela (Loy) Larson, of Moorhead, MN, Linda (Don) Jemtrud of Fargo; grandchildren: Katie (Tim) Glaser of Grandin, ND, Joseph Hahn, of Fargo, Scott Hahn of Moorhead, James Jemtrud of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jacob Jemtrud of Fargo; great grandchildren: Logan and Jack Glaser of Grandin; sister: Gladys Clark of Waconia, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold, Kenneth, Irvin, Don, and Conrad; sister: Bernice Lindeman; and grandson: Daniel Hahn.
