In the 1920 census, he and Emily lived with his mother, Nellie E Wahlord, in Minneapolis. Lawrence was a salesman for a tea company. Emily was a secretary for millinery stores. In the 1930 census, Emily Peters, 34, is married to Lawrence Peters, an “odd jobs” laborer living in Irving Twp, Kandiyohi County. They had been married for 13 years and had two daughters: Maria, 8, and “Vilaet”, 3. In the 1940 census, he was living in Dundas in Rice County. He was a repairman in the implement business. Living with him was his second wife, Margretta, their son Gilbert, and his daughters with Emily: Violet, 13, and Marie, 18.
