  		Charlie Smith on scooter Charlie had his legs amputated late in life due to an illness, perhaps diabetes. Al wrote on the back of the original "Charley Smith."
  		Charlie Smith, late teens This would seem to have been taken in the mid-1880s after the Fogelquists moved to Superior. However, it doesn't seem that the Fogelquists moved to Superior until the late 1890s. It's possible that Charlie was in Superior before his mother and step-father moved there. Al wrote on the back "Charley Smith." The photo was taken by Boyer Bros., 1316 Tower Avenue, West Superior, Wisconsin.
