He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair. In the 1920 census, Jasper Bryant, 28, and his wife Dora A, 26, live with their children in Ready Precinct, Grayson County, Kentucky. Jasper is a farmer. Their children, all daughters, are: Shrilda, 7, Add, 5, and Sallie, 3. In the 1930 census, Jasper (last name indexed as Zeyant) and Dora live in Louisville where Jasper is a carpenter. Jasper, 36, was first married at age 18. Dora, 33, was first married at age 14. The children living with them in Louisville were Rose, 15, Silphie, 9, William, 7 (called “daughter” but sex shown as male), and Harry, 4 and some months. In the 1940 census, Jasper, Dora, and W.E. lived in Louisville. Jasper was unemployed but had been an asphalt worker with the WPA. He earned $368 in 1939. W.E. was unemployed and referred to as a “new worker.” Jasper had an eighth-grade education, Dora had one year of high school. His granddaughter says that Jasper worked for the railroad and lived in Caneyville, Grayson County, Kentucky, before moving to Louisville.
