She was born on November 24, 1932, in Viroqua to Selbert and Sarah "Olive" (Sheffield) Aspenson. Lois grew up on her family farm near Mt. Sterling. She married Sherman Mickelson on Feb. 5, 1955. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Gays Mills and raised a family. Lois worked at the Red Apple Inn, was a co-owner of the Westby Locker Plant for almost 20 years and went into business with her son and daughter-in-law at Mickelson Market. She was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills. She enjoyed quilting, making lefse, and helping serve funeral meals at the church. She loved her family.
Survivors include her children, Debra Mickelson, Kristie (Mark) Brownie, Steve (Dori) Mickelson, and Scott Mickelson; her grandchildren, Hillary, Eric, Rachel, Megan, Kyle, Tyler, Cody, Melinda, and Taylor; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters-in-law, Ingeborg Larson, Rebecca Grangaard, Roseanne Aspenson, and Rae Dawn Aspenson; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman Mickelson; and her siblings, Orland (Rosemary) Aspenson, Ronald Aspenson, Joyce (Art) Helgerson, and Eldon Aspenson; her granddaughter, Amber Kay Mickelson; and her great-granddaughter, Frances "Frankie" June Allen.
