Gender Female Death 7 Jul 2015 North Dakota Notes - Carol Preston died, unexpectedly, at home in Fargo, ND on July 7, 2015 at the age of 80. Born March 16, 1935, in Bagley, MN, Carol Ann Braseth graduated from Caledonia, ND High School where she was a cheerleader, basketball player, and Valedictorian of her class. She attended Fargo Business College, then worked in Minneapolis at Reynolds Aluminum Co. She married DeVere Preston, a farmer and newspaperman for the Hillsboro Banner on November 24, 1956. Carol gave birth to three children in Hillsboro, ND, then went on to raise them in Windom, Jackson, Fergus Falls and Breckenridge, MN. Carol spent the last 22 years in Fargo, ND, following DeVere’s retirement in 1993. Their marriage was 46 years strong when she sadly lost DeVere in 2003. A loyal friend and devoted wife and mother, Carol will be remembered for her gift of gab, witty humor and enduring elegance. She was energetic, intelligent, had a memory like a “steel trap”, an avid bridge player and reader of current events who enjoyed discussing politics from all sides. Carol lived her last 12 years, independently, caring for her house and yard. Many friends and relatives sought her expert opinion in decorating, especially her talented eye for color. She was a caregiver for many throughout her life and very proud of her Norwegian heritage, which she displayed in her stoic and compassionate character.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Roald Braseth and brother-in-law Curtis Bueng. She is survived by her children; Kimberley Preston, Mitchell Preston and Claudia Preston (Joe) Storey; granddaughters Danielle and McKenzie Storey; siblings Gerald (LaDonna) Braseth, Barbara Bueng and Ronald (Jenell) Braseth; and her mother Ardis Braseth; many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. In March of this year, Carol and Ardis celebrated their 80th and 100th birthdays, respectively, with family and friends. We lost you too suddenly – you were dearly loved and will be missed.
