- As Margot Ellingboe, age 23, a German national, she arrived in New York on 11 Feb 1955 aboard the U.S.N.S. General Alexander M. Patch which had sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany, on 2 Feb 1955. Traveling with her was three-year old Karin Ellingboe, also a German national. Margot and Karin were bound for Sunburg, Minnesota.
She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis on June 9, 1958, in U.S. District Court, 4th Division. At that time, she lived in Sunburg.
Margot Synstelien, age 80, of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, November 8th, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 12, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Margot Synstelien was born on June 12, 1931 in Zuffenhausen, Germany, the daughter of Elise (Sommer) and Otto Link. She grew up and received her education in Germany. On September 25, 1954, she was married to Charles Ellingboe, who was in the service at that time. They moved to Sunburg after Charles was discharged from the service. Margot worked for Wonder Alls and Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store for a time. On October 31, 1969, she was married to Earl P. Synstelien and made their home in Willmar. She worked with Earl at his store, Earl's Meat Center. They moved to Tucson, AZ and later to Appleton, MN where she owned and operated the House of Hobbies and Earl operated the meat center. They moved to Cottonwood, AZ and in the mid 1990's return to live in Willmar. Margot did crafts and piece work for several craft businesses in the Willmar area and in Arizona. She has been a resident of Rice Care Center since 2005. She loved being around and entertaining her family and friends and she enjoyed all types of crafting, cooking, home decorating and making and giving home made gifts. Margot had been an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Sunburg and Appleton.
She is survived by one son; Steven (and Sheila) Elllingboe of Willmar and one daughter; Karin (and Ken Grundseth) Skarpness of Brooten. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, besides other relatives in Germany and friends both here and in Germany.
Margot was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and one brother (Rolf Link).
