Sylvia Marion Sorenson Luckman was born March 17, 1939, in Northfield to Sophus and Verna (Ness) Sorenson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Sylvia grew up on the family farm where she enjoyed rounding up the cows from the pasture and being surrounded by the wide open spaces. She was less enthusiastic about the rooster, who chased her around the farmyard. Sylvia met Kenneth Luckman when he gave her and four friends a ride home from a Valentine's Day dance. Ken soon gave Sylvia his class ring and for her graduation from Northfield High School in 1957, an engagement ring. They were married at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on June 7, 1958. After marriage they made their home in Northfield where Ken opened Luckman's Standard gas station. Sylvia raised their family and help out in the business. She later operated a day care from their home. Ken passed away on April 16, 1998. Sylvia was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed socializing and loved her family & grand-daughters dearly. Survivors include her son Steve Luckman of Burnsville, her daughter Darla (Alex) Hanson of Morristown, her granddaughters Lindsay, Maressa, and Kendra, her beloved cats Snuggles and Angel; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers Ken and Ed Sorenson. After many years of declining health, Sylvia passed away Friday evening, August 7, 2015, at Reflections on the Three Links Campus in Northfield, at the age of 76.
