475 A 19 year-old William O. Williams was working in a blacksmith shop in the town of Dayton, Waupaca County, in the 1870 census (June).

In the 1880 census (June 21st), William Williams is living in the village of High Forest in Olmsted County, MN. The household consists of William Williams, 30, Tilda, 35, Andrew, 3, Wilhelmina, 5 mos., brother Andrew, 27, and brother Edward, 20. Although William is shown as having been born in Wisconsin, and his parents in Norway, the rest of the household (Tilda, both Andrews, and Edward), except Wilhelmina, are shown as having been born in Norway and both parents in Norway. Wilhelmina is shown as born in Minnesota although both parents in Norway.

In the 1885 state census, the family is still in High Forest. The household is William Williams, 34, his wife Tora, 38 and born in Norway, and their children (all born in Minnesota): Andrew O., 7, Wilhelmina, 5, Ida C., 3, and Mable B., 10 months.

In the 1895 state census, William Williams is a blacksmith in Stewartville, Olmsted County. The clearly-challenged census-taker listed the family as William, 44, Hildia, 50, Andrew, 17, Alemeno, 15, Ada, 13, and Isabell, 11. William had lived in the state for 20 years, 6 months.

In the 1900 census (June 5th), the family is still living in High Forest, which is now a township, in Olmsted County. The village they live in is Stewartville. The family consists of William O. (born Aug 1851), Tildie (born May 1845), Wilhelmina A. (born Jan 1880), Ida C. (born Oct 1881), and Mable B. (born July 1884). The daughters were all born in Minnesota. William and Tildie have been married 24 years. Tildie has borne 4 children, all still living. William is a blacksmith. Wilhelmina is a clerk in a dry goods store. Ida is a clerk in a grocery store. Mable is in school.

The family appears to have left the state by 1905. William is living with Andrew in Fargo, North Dakota, in that city’s 1909 directory.

476 A 1912 land ownership map of Lake George Twp, Charles Mix County, South Dakota, shows an “O. W. Ellingboe” owning a 160 acre parcel, the northwest corner of Section 33.

In a 1914 land ownership atlas of Martin Twp, Rock County, Minnesota, “O W Ellingboe” owned an 80 acre parcel adjoining, and complementing, the two 80 acre parcels owned by “W O Ellingboe.”

Single and now head of the farm in the 1920 census. Living with him are his mother and sisters Bertha and Ida. The farm above his on the census sheet is Hans Nerison’s.

In the 1930 census, he is probably the Ole W. Ellingboe living on the Hans Nerison farm in Hills Village, Rock County. He is a farm laborer. He is erroneously shown as 51 years old (actually he was 61).

In the 1940 census, he is Ole W Ellingboe, a 71 year-old single man living in Hills. He’s a church janitor. He earned $200 in 1939. Ole had an 8th grade education.

In the 1950 census, he is a resident at the Bethesda Home for the Aged in Lincoln County, South Dakota.

478 A 1945 article in the Seattle Daily Times referred to her as Sue Eidal Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Turner. The September 2nd article described her leaving for Walla Walla to enter St. Paul’s School for Girls.

Her extensive genealogical records are in the Sue Eidal Collection in the Fiske Genealogical Library in Seattle.

Sue’s Mother’s father’s CHURCHILL family came to Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington in 1887 from Oregon. O.H. Churchill had gone to California from Kentucky at age 10 in 1851. His wife was Amelia Catherine HOUSER whose family came to Kittitas County in 1868 from Pennsylvania. Another booklet covers the REED family from Ohio.

The bulk of the collection consists copies of articles, notes, and supportive evidence, placed in cardboard boxes after her death and has been sorted by the Library. Major family names include: EIDAL, CHURCHILL, DIGENE, HOUSER, RAEN, REED, RUDE, SORFLATDALEN, WERKHISER, NERBY, FRAMGARDEN, HUMPHREY, and others.

Sue Eidal was born 29 Jan 1931 in Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington, daughter of early pioneer families: Roy Martin Eidal born 16 October 1905 in Ellensburg, and Doris Mildred Churchill, also born in Ellensburg. Sue’s grandfather , Kristen Olsen Eidal was born in Norway and she has traced those families back into the early 1600s. Sue’s mother was Doris Mildred Churchill, born 14 April 1903 in Ellensburg, daughter of Chester Charles Churchill who was born in Lynn County Oregon, the family earlier from Kentucky. He married Amelia Catherine Houser. Sue died 29 Sep 2000 in Seattle, King County, Washington.
