21951 William Frank “Bill” Dotzler, age 72 of Aitkin died Friday, December 26, 2014 peacefully at his home. Bill was born May 1, 1942 in Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Frank and Sara (Banks) Dotzler. He grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1960. He worked for Aitkin Motor Company for several years and then Hasskamp Equipment for a time. He also worked for Al Johnson Construction growing wild rice. He also worked for Red Welshons as a herd manager for a herd of beef cattle and also worked for Triangle Sales building barns and repairing barns. He married Linda M. Stofferahn on September 27, 1969 in McGregor. They made their home out on the rice flats for a couple of years and then moved north of Aitkin and operated a dairy farm until selling the dairy operation in 2005 and he went into raising beef cattle and sheep. He also worked for Blue Valley Sod and helped grow lawn grass. He was a school bus driver for the Aitkin Independent Schools for many years and drove bus up until Christmas break. He was a member of the Mississippi Headwaters Board, the Aitkin Township Board, Central Cattleman’s Association, ASCS Board, AMPI Board of Directors and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cedarbrook, having served on church council. He enjoyed collecting Louis L’Amour and William Johnstone western books, World War II books, toy tractors and friends. He loved deer hunting, fishing, traveling, fixing machinery and watching his crops grow, especially his corn. He enjoyed football, especially the Gobblers and Sunday afternoons with the Vikings, attending wrestling matches and dance line. In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling and ice fishing with his family. Above all he loved farming and driving school bus and his family. Over the years he was a surrogate dad to many neighborhood boys and he was grandpa to the children he loved so dearly on his school bus. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and good friend to many. He is survived by his mother Sara Dotzler of Aitkin; Wife: Linda Dotzler of Aitkin; Sons and daughters in law: John and Patti Dotzler of St. Petersburg, Florida; Kevin and Penni Dotzler of Aitkin; Daughter and son in law: Laura and Dean Stack of Nevis, Mn.; Brothers: Phillip (Judy) Dotzler of Aitkin, Ronald (Sharon) Dotzler of Aitkin; Donald (Carol) Dotzler of Nashwauk, Mn.; Sisters: Ruth (Gerald) Erickson of Minnetonka, Mn.; Elaine (Ron) Schafer of Oak Park, MN.; Eileen Ternus of Dent, Mn.; Grandchildren: Spencer, Molly, Justine, Step Grandchildren: Kenny, Kristina, Mitchell, and Cooper; Great Grandchildren: Landon, Ethan, Avalynn, Kaelyn, Sienna and Cora. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 AM from St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook with Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. 21952 William George Estrem, 92 years old, of Scotts Valley, passed away on May 31st, 2022, after contending with Alzheimers dementia for 10 years. He was survived by Shirley Estrem, his loving wife of 59 and a half years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Estrem of Weiser, ID; brother-in-law, Stanley Conrad of Scotts Valley; niece, Brenda Stack of Ogden UT; nephew, Edward Conrad of Scotts Valley; and granddaughter Téa Hegg of Boll, Switzerland. He is fondly remembered by his son, Conrad and Heidi Estrem of Boise ID; daughter, Kimberly Ann and Aschi Hegg of Boll, Switzerland; grandchildren, Zoé Hegg, Siena Estrem, Rémy Estrem, Kaioa and Tiana Hegg; sister in law, Carol Conrad; and nieces, Debra Clausen, Aleta Leen and Pamela Conrad, and many other friends and family.

William was born on August 29, 1929, in Sacramento, CA, to Ernest and Alice Estrem. He attended Auburn High School, and following graduation in 1947, he owned a bread delivery service providing bread for business in the Tahoe-Donner area. He also continued his studies by attending Placer College. His studies were interrupted by the Korean War. He volunteered to serve in the Air Force. By volunteering, he could choose his placement and serve at Ramstein Air Force base in Landstuhl, Germany. He worked in a pharmacy on the base. He enjoyed exploring central Europe during his leave time in Germany. He was honorably discharged after four years of service and returned to Placer College, now known as Sierra College. From Sierra College, he transferred to Stanford University and completed his degree in Political Science.

William met his wife-to-be, Shirley, while working during the summers inspecting pears in Lake County. In 1962, on November 11th, the two were married at Stanford University and settled in Scotts Valley. For forty years, William and Shirley worked hard to raise the best crop of pears. He spent many years serving on various pear boards to put his Stanford degree to good use. In serving on these boards, he traveled domestically and internationally to learn more about the pear industry. He was the Director of the California Tree Fruit Agreement for many years. He also represented Lake County growers on the Canning Pear Assn. He also served with the North Coast Fruit Agreement. He was the founder and President of the Scotts Valley Water Conversation District. The ranch served as a receiving station for Hunts/Wesson canned foods, where local farmers brought pears to be inspected and sent out to the cannery. At 73, William retired from pear farming and traveled to Switzerland, Michigan, and later Idaho to visit family and enjoy his grandchildren.

William was known for his gentle kindness, quiet calm presence, infinite patience, twinkling eyes and a sweet smile.

21953 William H. "Bill" Engel, age 87, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Nazareth House in Stoughton.

He was born on March 21, 1924, in Madison, the son of Jesse and Kathryn (Harlin) Engel. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1941, and furthered his education at UW-Madison, majoring in engineering. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in February of 1943, at the age of 18. Bill served his country for two tours of duty in France, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg in World War II. He served with General George Patton's First Army and was in the first replacement detachment in the Battle of the Bulge. He was on the front lines for 154 days without relief, as an artillery sergeant.

Bill was united in marriage to Genevieve "Gen" Catherine Hoffman of Westport, on Nov. 12, 1955. In 1957, Bill co-founded the UW Madison Orthotic Lab. As director and certified orthotist, he designed, built, and fitted orthosis for the severely disabled for 33 years, with many of his inventions written up in the Medical Archives. Bill shared his time and talents in Monona his entire adult life and was considered an icon of the community. He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Monona Volunteer Fire Department serving as a training officer, and American Legion Post 429 serving as an officer for 50 years. Bill served on the Monona Village Council for four years, then for 24 years on the police and fire commission, 12 years as president. After retirement, his many activities included volunteering for Kiwanis, Meals on Wheels, highway clean up, Wilmar Soup Kitchen, St. Stephen's Food Pantry, Salvation Army, and presenting student scholarships among others.

Bill's interests included restoring classic cars and boats, and he played league softball until he was 75. He learned to play the piano, organ, violin and harmonica through classes at MATC and had a beautiful voice which he shared in the IHM choir. Bill's most recent big experience was the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 12, 2011. He regarded this as one of the greatest honors of his life. Bill was truly a faithful servant of God, his family, and community. He was an inspiration and mentor to many and was loved and admired by all who had the opportunity to know him.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gen; his daughter, Kristi (Tim) Panthofer; his cherished granddaughters, Annalise, Olivia, Katie (Jon) Boone and Betsy; great-granddaughter, Isabelle; sisters, Connie Homan, Betty Jo (Ken) Kruska and Mary (Dick) Neuman; sisters-in-law, Cherie (John) Nuepert and Jerry Hoffman; brothers-in-law, Jerry Kessenich, Howard Hoffman and Ed Wronkowitz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim (Mary) Engel; sisters-in-law, Jane Wronkowitz and Mary Kessenich; and brothers-in-law, Marv Homan and Joe Hoffman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, with Father Bart Timmerman and Monsignor Gerard Healy concelebrating. Military Honors will follow immediately after Mass. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, following a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Pass and Review at 6:30 p.m. with Rosary to follow, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, and also at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.

21954 William H. (Bill) Thomsen, 83, passed away August 29, 2003, at his residence, The Cedars. He was born November 4, 1919, to Carl and Kristine Thomsen, and married Lorraine Dalager on August 16, 1946, in Austin.

Bill was employed by Richfield Oil Refinery in Long Beach, Calif., George A. Hormel of Austin, owned Thomsen Cleaners in Austin for 18 years and thereafter was associated with Butler Amusements (Bud and Butch Butler, former residents of Austin) in California.

He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre, U.S. Army, a member of the American Legion, VFW DAV, Eagles and Odd Fellows.

His hobbies included fishing, boxing, reading, music and traveling. He loved visiting with friends and family. Bill's infectious smile and warm personality left few behind as strangers.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Sharon Morrison Thomsen; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including David (Julie) Thomsen of Austin and Penny (Thomsen) Marshall of Rochester; as well as many very dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; son, Ron; daughter, Peggy; sister, Shirley; brothers, Bob, Barney and Carl.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Randy Petersen officiating. Internment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the service. Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 VFW and Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Organist will be Kathy Crosby and soloist will be Kathleen Iverson. Casket Bearers will be Norm Johnson, Bill Myhre, Jim Tonjum, Roy Bagne, Julie Thomsen, and Dave Thomsen. The funeral home is Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin.

21955 William Toso, 96, Devils Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in a Devils Lake nursing home.
He was born April 12, 1913, to Conrad and Ida Toso near Esmond. He married Evelyn Togstad Dec. 30, 1939, in Minnewaukan.
Survivors: wife; sons, Larry, Windsor, Colo., Lanis, Devils Lake; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Wednesday, 11 a.m., St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.

21956 William was a hardware merchant living in the village of Kerkhoven, Pillsbury Twp, Swift County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1900 census.

In the 1885 Minnesota census, W H Merryman and family were living in Pillsbury Twp, Swift County, Minnesota, with post office address Kerkhoven. His wife’s name is Katchell, age 22, born in Norway. His daughter is Mable, age 1.

In the 1895 census, he is shown as dealing in hardware and lumber. He and Rachel had been in Minnesota for 13 years. C. L. Merryman, a photographer who had been in the state for 4 years, was living with them in 1895.

William and Rachel were living with their widowed daughter Ella and family in the 1930 census. They lived next door to Grace and Herbert in the village of Kerkhoven.

21957 William “Bill” James McCormick, 77, of Guntersville, passed away on August 20, 2024, after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Howard McCormick, as well as three children; Kara McCormick of Hampstead, MD; Carter McCormick of Oneonta, and Hunter McCormick of Guntersville; a brother Bob McCormick (Cindy) of Lilburn, GA; sisters Gina Nunn (Brad) of Huntsville and Patty Gurley (John) of Guntersville; along with four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kennth and Rita McCormick, and his brother Kenny McCormick Jr.
Bill graduated from Marshall County High School and Auburn University School of Pharmacy. He worked for Giant, Safeway, Target and CVS Pharmacies during his career. He moved to Maryland after graduating from pharmacy school and returned to Guntersville in 2002.

His widow may not have been the mother of all of, or any of, his children. He was married at least three times. HIs first wife was Diane Rice, whom he married in 1972.
