The 1898 St. Paul city directory records a William C. Deiters, teamster, living at 62 South Robert with his business at 139 E. Delos. At the Delos address is also Henry F. Deiters, teamster.

William and his wife were living at 463 Charles in St. Paul at the time of the 1900 census. His occupation is, and it’s hard to read, “truckman.”

Listed his business at 139 E. Delos in the 1904 city directory. Residing at 403 Edmund as William C., occupation is teamster.

They were living at 673 Central Avenue in St. Paul at the time of the 1910 census. His occupation is, and again it’s hard to read, “manager, transfer line.”

In both the 1900 as well as the 1910 census, William’s mother is shown as having been born in Missouri.

The 1900 census entry showed his birthdate as December of 1895.

He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Wild Rice, Norman County. He gave his permanent address as Twin Valley. He was single and was employed as an electrician by J. F. Heiberg of the town of Wild Rice. He was described as tall and slender with blue eyes and dark hair.

In the 1920 census, he and his wife Gerda and daughter Elain are living next door to his father in Wild Rice Twp. Andrew is an electrician.

In the 1930 census he is the superintendent of a light plant. He and his family live in Wild Rice Twp, Norman County.

He registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Willmar, as 35 year-old Edward A. Ellingboe. (This suggests the truth of the 1883 birthdate.) He was a farm laborer on his mother’s farm. His mother was Mrs. A. J. Ellingboe. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and red hair. His birth date per his draft registration was 13 March 1882.

Single and living at home in Norway Lake Twp with his mother and siblings in the 1920 census.

Lived in Sunburg, Route 2, when Elvin was born.

Edward, Julia, and Elvin were living in Rolling Forks Twp, Pope County, at the time of the 1930 census. Living with them were Julia’s sister, Clara Halverson, Julia’s mother, Cari Rust, and Edward’s brother Oley.

In the 1940 census, he and Julia and Alvin, along with Julia’s sister Clara, lived in Gilchrist Twp, Pope County, in rented residence. He had no occupation, was unable to work, and had earned no income in 1939. He and Julia had 8th-grade educations.

He died of a heart attack.

The 1900 census had her born in October of 1852 in Norway and her arrival in the U.S. as 1892. She arrived with her daughter Sofie, born Sep 1886 in Norway. (Sofie is shown in the census as age 15 so she may have been born in 1884.)

In the 1910 census, she is shown as age 49.

Jackie believes her to be Anne Olsdatter, b. 2 Oct 1861, living with her parents and siblings on the Grof Mellem farm in Buskerud in the 1875 Norwegian census. Jackie has Anne O having Sophie with Sven Engebretsen Viken (b. in Ramsviken, Aal, Hallingdal) in September of 1886.

In the 1880 census she is the 16 year-old Sophy Gibbs, niece, living with William and Mary Ann Gibbs in Blooming Grove, Waseca County, Minnesota. That Sophy’s father was born in Scotland and her mother in England. William and Mary Ann Gibbs were both born in England so it is likely that Sophy’s mother was the Gibbs.

May be the Sofia McCarthy living with her parents in Otter Tail County in the 1870 census.

She probably died from complications from her childbirth a month before.
