Thomas "Tommy" Smith Jr., age 87, of Deerwood, died on Nov. 29, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. He was born on Aug. 11, 1922, in Margie, Minn., to Thomas A. and Vallie (Hunter) Smith. He married Betty Jean Schwartz on Dec. 27, 1952, in Crosby. He was a Merchant Marine serving in WWII. He owned and operated Tommy's Supper Club in Austin, Minn., the Cedar Chest Supper Club in Crosslake and the Spina Hotel in Ironton. He was operations manager at the Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis and was maitre d' at Murray's Restaurant and Lounge in Minneapolis. After retirement Tommy continued as host at the Cuyuna Country Club, Deerwood, and Walter Scott Erickson American Legion, Deerwood. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby and the Myrin-James American Legion Post 443 of Ironton.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Smith, of Crosby, and Tommy Smith, of Deerwood; two brothers, Boyd (Jeanette) Smith, of Madison, Wis., and Danny Smith, of Medford, Minn.; two sisters, Alaine McNelly, of Crosby, and Val "Honey" Smith, of Medford, Minn.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty in 2003; three sisters, Sherry Smith, Jean Brown and Doris Gustad. | SMITH, Thomas E (I21763)
