20886 This is the same birthday as #10704. Unlikely as it seems, two Edmund Ellingboes did indeed have exactly the same birthday. Could not find this one in the index of births. On his draft registration, he claimed to have been born on 29 May 1911 in North Fork, Stearns County, Minnesota. Those are also the date and location described in his obituary.

In the 1940 census he was the 28 year-old Edmund G, born in Minnesota. He was single and was living with Robert and Tilda in North Fork Twp, Stearns County, Minnesota. He had an eighth-grade education and was a farm laborer.

He registered for the draft in Melrose, Minnesota, on 16 Oct 1940, as Edmund Griffith Ellingboe.

The informant for his death certificate was Jane Segaar of 311 2nd Street, Brooten. Edmund died of a heart attack. He was a farmer in Stearns County. He went to school through the 8th grade. He never married. He was a veteran of World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.

Either he, or (more likely) the Edmund of #10704, is likely the subject of this newspaper article from the Saturday, September 4, 1937, edition of the Brainerd Daily Dispatch:

“Edmund Ellingboe, of South Minneapolis, driver of one of the cars involved in a highway crash which yesterday resulted in the death of Theodore Berg, 23, of Brainerd, today faces a charge of “criminal negligence in the operation of vehicle resulting in the death of a human being.” The warrant was issued yesterday from the office of County Attorney F E Ebner and was served upon Ellingboe at St. Joseph’s hospital.

“Hearing upon the charge will be delayed, possibly for several weeks, as Ellingboe is confined to the hospital with a compound fracture of the hip, an injury received in the crash which caused Berg’s death.

“Others injured in the accident were Ernest Rausch, of Brainerd, driver of the car in which Berg was riding and Carl Layman, of St. Paul, a passenger in Ellingboe’s car.”

According to another article, the head-on crash occurred on U.S. 371 about 3 miles south of Brainerd early Wednesday morning. Berg died of his injuries on Friday.
