20731 There doesn’t seem to be a match in the Minnesota birth index. Nor is there a match for her in the 1920 census. She just appears out of the blue, as “sister”, in the 1930 census.

She may be the Virginia Marshall who married Thomas J Clark in Hennepin County on 8 July 1931. Thomas John Clark and Virginia Marshall had five children in Hennepin County between 1932 and 1945.

A different Virginia Mae Marshall was born on 9 April 1912 in Nobles County to William H and Clara Marshall and she was still living with them in the 1920 census. She married Eugene Sowles in Nobles County in 1929.

20732 There is a gravestone for her at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. CADY, Susan Almira (I17925)

20733 There is confusion about this Britta. The First Lutheran Church record for the Household Examination for Hans Findell calls her Brita Olsdotter with her birthday as 16 Oct 1843. The household examination for the Hans Findell family that calls her the 1843 Brita Olsdotter also clearly shows her as the mother of Erik Erikson 1879, Maria Carolina Erikson 1881, Clara Christina Erikson 1885, and Emma Erikson 1886.

In the 1880 census, as a very recently arrived immigrant, she is Betsy Erickson, age 33.

In the 1895 Minnesota state census, she is Betsy Findel, age 48, the wife of Hans Findel, age 50. They live on a farm in Spring Vale Twp, Isanti County. The rest of the household is Eric Erickson, 15, Mary Erickson, 14, Clara Erickson, 10, Emma Erickson, 8, Daniel Findel, 72 and an invalid, and Brita Findel, 73.

In the 1900 census, she was Brita Findell, age 53, still living in Spring Vale Twp with her husband Hans and her children Erick, Maria, Clara, and Emma, all of whom have the surname Findell on the census form. She has had 8 children, 5 still living. She came to the U.S. in 1880.

Thus, all of these censuses, as well as the marriage record, agree that the Brita involved here is Brita Andersdotter who was born in 1846. The DeGriselles Family Tree agrees that the mother of those Erickson children was Britta Andersdotter 1846. We’ll probably never know how this confusion arose. Hans Findell did later marry a Brita Olsdotter but that was much later and to a much younger Brita.
ANDERSDOTTER, Britta (I27492)

20734 There is confusion over his birth year. SSDI says 1954 and that seems to be confirmed by his obit. TAYLOR, Jeffrey Robert (I19457)

20735 There is no record of her after the 1940 census.

The 28 Jan 1946 edition of the Star includes the notice of a marriage license application by John Jordan, Jr., of Kansas City and Ethel I. Bergman, 69 Iglehart Avenue, St. Paul.

Her obit was in the Kansas City Times on 31 Jul 1976.

She had lived in the Kansas City area for 22 years. She was a Lutheran and a member of the Blue Springs Rebekah Lodge. Surviving her were her husband, five sons, and two unmarried daughters.
BERGMAN, Ethel Imogene (I19606)

20736 There is not a William Lynch in the 1920s Minneapolis city directories for whom a Clara is listed as a spouse. LYNCH, William H (I2302)

20737 There is some confusion about this person. Some reputable sources have him as the son of Ole Tostensen Kvåle (#24448) and Margrethe Knudsdatter. That is incorrect. It’s true that that couple had a son Tosten born about this time but that Tosten Olsen died in infancy.

HOLIEN, Tosten Olsen (I40991)

20738 There is some disagreement on this wife of Kristen Andersen.

Jim, for example, calls her Marit Eriksdatter Rudi but with no other information.

The previous entry in geneastory for Kristen Andersen's first wife had her as Marit Olsdatter, born 1807, the daughter of Ole Tostensen Melby. Although the bride in Kristen Andersen's 1829 marriage is shown as age 23, perhaps reasonably consistent with an 1807 birthdate, it is more likely that dwfrench1's assignment is correct and that is what is now shown here. dwfrench1's assignment is for Kristen A's first wife is Marit Olsdatter Rudi born in 1804. The crucial evidence for the 1804 Marit is that Kristen A remarried in 1856 and the death records show that a Marit Olsdatter Kolstad died in 1853 at the age of 49.

dwfrench1 also suggests a possible earlier marriage for that Kristen A and Marit O as 26 Apr 1826 in Rogne. That would explain Anders Kristensen’s 1828 birth not being shown as illegitimate. However, I could not find the 26 Apr 1826 marriage record in digitalarkivet.

The 1807 Marit Olsdatter is now included in geneastory as the wife of Tollev Gudbrandsen Magistad per dwfrench1's French Family Tree.
RUDI, Marit Olsdatter (I31207)

20739 There is some uncertainty about the family name. STEEN, Ove (I2476)

20740 There was a husmann Per Persson Kvåle, b. 1808 and married 1844 to Ragndi Torsteinsdatter S. Bø., b. 1818. Petter Persson (I24019)
