T. Gerhard Haugen, 86, of Northfield died Thursday, July 11, 1991 at the Three Links Care Center. Haugen was born Dec. 15, 1904 to Christopher and Mareth (Lykken) Haugen in Dennison. He attended rural Dennison Public Schools and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1925. On March 21, 1964 he married Bertha Soine in Dennison. The couple lived in Dennison, Cannon Falls and Northfield. He was employed by Goodhue County Dairy Herd Improvement Association from 1939 to 1941. In 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He re-enlisted in 1945 and was sent ot China where he was critically injured and received a medical discharge in 1947. When he returned he was employed by Dakota County Dairy Herd Improvement Association until 1953, then worked as a custodian at Boe Chapel at St. Olaf College until his retirement. Haugen was a member of Vang Lutheran Church in rural Dennison. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and a sister. Survivors include a stepson Richard Soine of Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepdaughter Carol (and John) Beckman of Cannon Falls; two stepgrandchildren; a sister Gertrude Underdahl of Kenyon; a nephew Pete Underdahl of Dennison; and several cousins. Visitation was held Friday, July 12 at the Benson Funeral Home in Northfield. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13 at Vang Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gerald Gengenbach officaiting. Music was provided by organist Helen Midje. Pallbearers were Bernard and Arnold Ellingboe, Herb and Donald Haugen, and Dale and Pete Underdahl. He was “of New Market” in his father’s obituary.
