As John Johnsen Selmo, age 26, he arrived in the U.S. at New York on November 25, 1893, aboard the Thingvalla. His destination was Farmington, Minnesota. He had embarked from Christiania.
A John Selmo was a servant on the Albert Sayers farm in Eureka Twp, Dakota County, in the 1900 census. That John Selmo is shown as born in March of 1865 in Norway and having come to the U.S. in 1894.
In the 1905 state census, 37 year-old John Selmo was a farm laborer in Eureka Twp. He had been in Minnesota for 11 years and 10 months.
John and Anna M. were living in Solway, Beltrami County, in the 1920 census. They had no children. John was a laborer on the railroad.
Unemployed at the time of the 1930 census.
In the 1940 census, the Selmos lived in Solway in Beltrami County in the same house in which they had lived five years earlier. John was unable to work so the family was apparently supported by Orlo. John had an 8th grade education, Anna had a 7th grade education.
The situation is similar in the 1950 census. John Sr., age 82, is shown as doing chores around his home. John Orlo, 30, is still at home and employed as an auto mechanic at a garage. | SELMO, John (I282)
