She was living in Viroqua as Agnes Morkrid at the time of her sister Rae Hope’s death in July of 2010.

Agnes O. Thompson-Morkrid, 98, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at Vernon Manor, Viroqua.

Agnes was born Aug. 23, 1917, to Harvey and Erma (Osborne) Fish, in Viroqua. She was baptized at Bad Axe Lutheran Church. She was a member of Viroqua United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed listening to the Sunday services on the radio. She was united in marriage to Gerald Thompson, and later divorced. Agnes then married Martin Morkrid.

Agnes lived most of her years in Vernon County, except for a few years when she lived in Madison, Wis. While in Madison, she worked for Rennebohm Drug Store, and also ran her own in-house daycare.

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine “Gerri” Steely of Round Rock, Texas, and Linda (Dennis) Davidson of Madison; two granddaughters, Jamie (Mark) Mathison of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Heidi (Eddie) Berebitsky of Milton, Wis.; grandsons, Jeff Davidson of Westby, Matthew (Amy) Thompson of Arbor Vitae, Wis., Adam Hilgendorf of Portage, and Michael Hilgendorf of Madison; nine great-grandchildren, Miranda Ritcher, Louis, Abigail, Samantha Berebitsky, Hannah and Jared Mathison, Marilyn Karen, Maxwell and Taylor Thompson; one great-great-grandson, Carson Ritcher; brother, Dale Fish of La Farge; son-in-law, Duane Hilgendorf of Madison; brother-in-law, Bill Pace; five stepdaughters, Gloria McCarter, Karen (Theodore) Larson, Shirley (Robert) Kelsey, Diane (Bill) Brose, and Joan (the late Earl) Morkrid; many step-grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marilyn Thompson and Ida Hilgendorf; one granddaughter, Sherry Arlene Davidson; her husband, Martin Morkrid; four sisters, Merle (Guy) Primmer, Fern (Martin) Morkrid, Dorothy (Ernest) Ekum and Rae Hope Pace; two brothers, Norman (Geneva) and Clinton Fish; sister-in-law, Mary Fish; and two stepsons, Earl and Kenneth Morkrid.

Agnes will be sadly missed by her family.

Funeral services for Agnes will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home. Pastor Eileen Kuehnl of United Methodist Church, La Farge, will officiate, with burial immediately following the service in the Viroqua Cemetery.
