Myrna M. Allness, from Viroqua, WI, age 88, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, IL. Myrna was born on January 9, 1933, in Viroqua, WI, to Louie and Marie (Gibbs) Anderson. Myrna attended grade school in a one-room school called Foreaker Schoolhouse, which is now a museum in Viroqua.

Myrna graduated in 1950 from Viroqua High School. Her favorite year was her senior year when she was a cheerleader. Myrna was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the United Kickapoo Lutheran Church in Folsom, WI.

Myrna married Johnny O. Allness on November 15, 1952, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua where they were both members. They lived in Waukegan, IL for 48 years. Myrna worked as a payroll supervisor at Victory Memorial Hospital (now known as Vista East Hospital) in Waukegan where they had over 2,000 employees. Myrna also worked at Oakwood Racquet Club as a general manager in Waukegan. The Oakwood building was 75,000 square feet with seven full-size tennis courts and nine full-size racquetball courts, along with aerobics and a fitness center. It had a membership of 2,500 members. Myrna managed all this along with all the bookkeeping. She was fortunate to have good help. She thoroughly enjoyed it. In all, Myrna worked for over 40 years; while busy working, Johnny hauled new cars all over the United States. They had one daughter, Judy Ann Allness.

Myrna, an avid sports fan, went to all the football and basketball games while in high school, at home and away. She was a fan of the Chicago Bears football team and the Chicago Bulls basketball team. Her daughter, Judy Ann got tickets and took her to Soldiers Field in Chicago where she saw the 1985 Bears play and went to the United Center to see the Chicago Bulls basketball team when Michael Jordan played. Myrna enjoyed those and was lucky enough that all games were won when she attended.

In 1990, Myrna retired. Judy set up dealer trades of new cars for Ford and Chevrolet Dealers in Waukegan for Myrna and Johnny to do dealer trades. They went all over delivering new cars. In 2001, they moved back to Viroqua, WI on Johnny’s family farm, of 100 acres. They did dealer trades again in Viroqua for Ford and Chevrolet until Johnny had his heart surgery in April of 2004. Myrna loved taking pictures and making them into color slides. Her Uncle Adolph, dad (Louie E. Anderson), daughter Judy, nephew Dwain Hayter, and sister Karen Nelson called them movies which often brought laughter, great stories, and oohs and aahs. Myrna and Johnny loved country and western music, sharing many of the same favorite songs. Myrna loved to dance. Myrna and Johnny would often go to the Avalon Ballroom in La Crosse and dance away. Myrna’s favorite color was red, and her favorite flowers were red roses.

After the love of her life, Johnny died on May 12, 2006, Myrna bought a home in Park City, IL where she stayed for six months in the winter and came back to the farm in the summer for six months. The farm was so pretty in the summer but the winters were too harsh for Myrna to be alone on the farm since she had two artificial knees and a bad ankle. In Park City, she only lived about 1.5 miles from her daughter, Judy in Waukegan, Il.

Myrna loved and enjoyed life to its fullest, always enjoying her birthdays and loved Christmas. She was ecstatic to be decorated for Christmas on November 1st, which she excitedly shared with her daughter. Myrna and Johnny were married 54 ½ years before he passed away of a massive stroke. They went together for four years so they knew each other for 58 ½ years before Johnny died.

Myrna is survived by her loving daughter, Judy Ann Allness; her sister, Karen Nelson of Viroqua; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny; her parents, Louie and Marie Anderson; sister, Artine Cox; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, three nephews, as well as her brother-in-law, Alf G. Allness and Johnny’s parents, Michael and Mae Allness.

Duff was born March 29, 1942, at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls to Reynold and Helen (Wright) Leikvoll. Duff was raised in Little Falls, and graduated from Little Falls Community High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country from 1965 until 1967, during the Vietnam War.

Duff was united in marriage to Mary Pappenfus Aug. 27, 1983, at the Camp Ripley Chapel. The couple later divorced, but they remained close friends while raising their daughter, Tasa. He returned to Little Falls and worked for his father at Leikvoll Auto. Duff and his brother, Jim, later took over ownership of the business. Duff was an active member in the Little Falls American Legion Post #46, Little Falls VFW #1112 and Cooties. He was very proud of his military service. Duff was a scout master for over 20 years, taught firearm safety and was active with the Big Brother and Big Sister organization. Duff enjoyed visiting with friends at the VFW and Crowder's Station. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, antique cars and boats, stock car racing and putzing and tinkering around the house.

Duff is survived by his mother Helen Leikvoll of Little Falls; daughter Tasa Leikvoll of Shoreview; sister Bunny Tabatt and special friend, Gary Martin of Little Falls; brothers Jim Leikvoll (Gail) of Little Falls and Art Leikvoll (Julie) of Little Falls; nieces Sherrie Otremba (Tim) of Little Falls and Jacki Backowski (Milo) of Little Falls; nephew Randy Tabatt (Lynn) of Little Falls; great nieces and nephews Shae, Zach, Melissa, Matthew, Michael, Spenser and Collin; and special friend Jeanette DeZurik of Little Falls.

He was preceded in death by his father Reynold Leikvoll; uncle LeRoy Wright; brother-in-law Lee Tabatt; and cousin Don Leikvoll.

Myrtle Alice Sagen was born on September 15th, 1914 in Alma, Montana, the 2nd of 4 children, to Christine Aaberg Stewart and John L. Stewart. When Myrtle was 11 years old her family moved to Devils Lake, North Dakota, to be closer to relatives, and continue the family farm.

Myrtle was a good student, and after high school obtained her teaching certificate from Mayville State College. She began her teaching career at Cato School #4 in Ramsey County, North Dakota, a one room school house, where she had students from first through eighth grades. She often rode her horse to school and in the harsh winters would stay the night to stoke up the fire and warm the school before the children arrived.

She married John Sagen of Edmore, North Dakota, in 1937, and began her lifelong career as a devoted mother of seven children. In 1943, the young family moved to the west coast and lived in several locations throughout Washington and Oregon, before settling in the Eugene area in 1950.

Myrtle finished her degree at the University of Oregon and taught 4th grade at Marcola Elementary School from 1956-1981. She was a beloved teacher and kept in touch with her co-workers, students and their families, until her passing. Much to her delight, and 35 years after she retired, the community of Marcola surprised her with a 90th birthday party, filling the high school cafeteria.

After retirement, Myrtle led an active life. She traveled to Europe, Israel, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico, as well as several US states. Myrtle was a member of the Obsidian's, took swim classes at the YMCA, and volunteered for the Democratic Party and Eugene Hult Center. She loved her church, Central Lutheran, and was proud to be its oldest living member. She faithfully taught Sunday school for several years and was very involved in her bible study group, Esther circle, and numerous other church activities and volunteer projects.

Her greatest joy was spending time with friends and family, and she had very special relationships with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was the place of countless family gatherings, and was always filled with love, laughter, kindness and generosity.

Myrtle was able to remain living in her home through her final years, thanks to help from devoted family members. During her brief illness, her younger sister Eileen traveled from Rugby, North Dakota, along with friends and family from Montana, California, Washington, North Dakota and throughout Oregon to visit her. She passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2014, surrounded by loved ones.

Myrtle is survived by her sister, Eileen Erickson, of Rugby, North Dakota; her children, Jack Sagen of Moraga, CA, Jayne Fortt of Tacoma, WA, Jerry Sagen, Jean Bennett and spouse Ron Farmer, all of Eugene; 8 grandchildren, Kimberly Sagen, Shawn Muller, Tracy Bennett, Daren Miles, James Fortt, Hallie Fortt, Amy Railey and Brock Railey; 3 great-grandchildren, Shelby Muller, Brenna Railey, and Quinn Lejnieks; several cousins, nieces, nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren and her little dog, Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sagen, brother Earl Stewart, sister Jeanette LaBarre, daughter Joan Miles, great-granddaughter Faith Railey and dogs, Daisy and Mitzi.

A celebration of 100 years of life will be held at Central Lutheran Church, Monday, September 15, 2014 at 3:00pm with a reception following in the fellowship hall. All whose life Myrtle has touched are encouraged to join in the celebration of an extraordinary woman and a life so well lived. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Church Sunday School Fund or The Relief Nursery.

Myrtle had been a postmistress of the Sunburg Post Office from 1944 to 1968. She lived in Sunburg. She died of heart disease. The informant for her death certificate was Arnold Moen of Belgrade.
