Lowell C. Estrem, 71, of Kenyon died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vang Lutheran Church in rural Dennison. Lowell Curtis Estrem was born on Oct. 6, 1932, in Holden Township, the son of Leonard and Ida (Lindstrom) Estrem. On Nov. 1, 1952 he married Colleen Halseth at the Vang Parsonage in Northfield. He was a life-long member of Vang Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; six children, Cindy Trapp of Kenyon, Karen Nelson of Dundas, Trudy Scarpetta of Eagan, Lorrie of Minetrista, Juel of Dennison, and Rich, of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Knivsland of North St. Paul and Ann Erickson of Rochester; and a brother, Don Estrem of Dennison.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Ronald Dale Phillips, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at his residence in Clay Center.
Mr. Phillips was born Dec. 1, 1946 at Layton, Utah, the son of Dale and Arlene (Thompson) Phillips.
He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces, retiring as a lieutenant colonel after nearly 40 years of service. He served as a peacekeeper in the Sinai Peninsula. He married Connie Thompson on August 29, 1968 at Ogden, Utah. After retiring from the Army, he workd as a civil service employee on Fort Riley and for the Geary County Health Department.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Phillips of the home at Clay Center; one son, Scott Phillips of Clay Center; one daughter, Amy Whitaker and husband Calvin J. of Junction City; two sisters, Sandy Adrian and husband Larry of Odgen, Utah and Sela Jensen of Hollister, Calif.; one brother, Brad Phillips of Ogden, Utah; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his mother, Arlene Phillips Miller of Ogden, Utah.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery, Fort Riley, Manhattan, with the Rev. Susan Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Kansas Veteran's Cemetery, Fort Riley. | PHILLIPS, Ronald Dale (I28693)

Lt. Col., U.S. Army (Ret.) James Emmett Reynolds, age 88, of Montgomery (formerly of Troy) died peacefully on May 9, 2007.
At his request, his body was donated to the Anatomical Donor Program at UAB for the benefit of future generations.
Col. Reynolds, a loving son, brother, husband, father and Papaw to his grandchildren was born in Butler County on October 6, 1918, and educated in the Lowndes County school system.
At an early age he began his army career and served in WWII and the Korean War.
After retiring from 5th Army headquarters in Chicago, he returned to Alabama and settled in Troy where he was employed as an officer in the F&M Bank.
He later served the Alabama Banking Department as examiner and ended his employment with Wiley Sanders Truck Lines.
He enjoyed playing dominoes, golf and the stock market.
He was affectionately known as Safety Jim, dedicating a good portion of his later life to highway safety and the encouragement of others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Elijah (Ligie Jim) and Ethel Blanche Reynolds of Ft. Deposit, and brothers Harry Reynolds of Montgomery, John Frank (Buddy) Reynolds, of Greenville and Robert C. Reynolds, of Geneva.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elvira Reynolds, and sister, Layne Reynolds of Greenville, sons Robert Reynolds (Shirley) of Brentwood, Tennessee and Tim Reynolds of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter Anne Goff of Seacrest Beach, Florida, sister-in-law Jean Reynolds of Geneva, brother-in-laws Dr. Paul Opsvig (Sue) of Berkeley, California and Robert Opsvig (Myla) of Seattle, Washington, his grandsons, Jeremiah Henderson, III, and Reynolds (Stacey) Henderson, of Rosemary Beach, Florida, Rob Allen Reynolds of Hollywood, California, Paul Reynolds and David Reynolds, of Brentwood, Tennessee, and granddaughters, Brooke Reynolds and Lindsay Reynolds of Atlanta, Georgia and Caroline Reynolds of Tulsa, Oklahoma as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. | REYNOLDS, James Emmett (I1778)
