His obituary was published on p. B12 of the November 5, 2000, and November 12, 2000, editions of the Duluth News-Tribune.

According to his death certificate, Ricky died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at 4755 Miller Trunk Parkway in Hermantown in St. Louis County. He was single, never married, and his occupation was “VA Disability.” His usual residence was 1621 Cummings Avenue, Superior, Wisconsin. He had had 3 years of college. The informant for the information in his death certificate was his brother, Douglas.

14403 Living in Vineland Twp, Polk County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1900 census (June 9th). The family consisted of John, 54 (June 1845 in Sweden), Bereth, 42 (Aug 1857 in Norway), Ida, 14 (Apr 1886), Bertha, 8 (Aug 1891), Netta, 7 (May 1893), Lydia, 4 (May 1896), Lilly, 1 (Jul 1898), and Selmer, 8 (Aug 1891). John and Betsy have been married for 9 years. Betsy has six children still living but the number she has given birth to is indecipherable (but it appears to be a number other than 6). All the children were born in North Dakota. John came to this country in 1870 and is a naturalized citizen. Betsy came in 1877 and is not a citizen. John is a farmer who owns his farm although it is mortgaged.

In the 1905 state census, the family was still in Vineland Twp. They have been in Minnesota and in Vineland Twp for 5 years and 6 months. The family consists of John, 57, Beret, 46, Selmer, 13, Bertha, 13, Netta, 12, Lydia, 10, and Tille, 6.

Still in Vineland Twp in the 1910 census. The family is John Swenson (indexed as “Samson”), 63, Beret, 57, Selmer, 18, Nettie, 17, Lydia, 14, and Lillie, 11. All of the children were born in North Dakota. John and Beret had been married for 18 years and she had had 11 children, 6 still living. Their pastor at the church they attended may well have been O. N. Bergh (#8157).

In the 1920 census, John, 76, Beret, 62, and Lelia, 21 and single, were living in the village of Climax, Polk County. Lelia is a laborer in the housework industry and John is a retired farmer. John came to this country in 1884 and Beret in 1888.

Allene L. (Nelson) Christianson, 90, of Viroqua, died Thursday, Match 27, 2014, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua.

Allene was born June 10, 1923, in the town of Kickapoo, rural Readstown, to Abraham and Anna (Anderson) Nelson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Kickapoo United Lutheran Church in Soldiers Grove. She attended Spring Valley Country School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Readstown High School, Class of 1941. After graduation, besides helping on the family farm, she worked various jobs including waitressing in Viroqua at the Oriole cafe and also worked in La Crosse painting radio dials to support the war effort. On Oct. 26, 1947, she married Alvin E. Christianson. They were married in a double-ring ceremony with her sister Mildred and Arvid Swenson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua.

The couple farmed side by side and raised their four children on the family farm in the town of Jefferson, rural Viroqua. Allene was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years, Rebecca Circle and the WELCA. She was an avid scrapbooker and journal writer. Her favorite hobby was crocheting, where she had made many items for family and friends. Allene enjoyed visiting in person and on the phone with her sisters, cousins and friends. She was famously known to her grandchildren for her homemade strawberry jam, biscuits and chocolate chip cookies.

Allene is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Mike) Ryan of La Crescent, Minn.; two sons, Marcus Christianson and Ryan (Nora) Christianson, both of Viroqua; daughter-in-law, Pat Christianson of Apple Valley, Minn.; grandchildren, Tara (Pete) Peterson, Dr. Lucas (Dr. Lee) Christianson, Nick (Heather) Christianson, Ben and Katy Christianson, Kim Ryan, Holly (Rex) Delgado, Ryanna and Carly Christianson; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Fernando Souza, Taysa Peterson, Wesley Christianson, Kaleb and Jace Delgado and Preston Ryan; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rodney; daughter-in-law, Sara Christianson; grandchildren, Wendy (Dan) Thicke; brother, Alvin Nelson; sisters, Mildred Swenson and Irene Nedland; and nephew, Blayne Nedland.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua. Pastor Pete Beckstrand officiated with burial following in the Bethel Cemetery.

Immigration records show that, as 70 year-old Ferd. Schumann, he arrived in New York on 11 July 1897 aboard the S.S. Sicilia which had sailed from Stettin on June 24th. The manifest said that his final destination was Mankato where he was going to join his son. He was single and his occupation was shoemaker. His last residence appears to be “Ternark.”

14408 Living with her and her family in Wisconsin in the 1930 census was her father, the 79 year-old Haldor Qualle. He had been born in Norway and came to the U.S. in 1880.

Haldor O Kvale, age 51, lived with his family in Goodhue County at the time of the 1905 Minnesota state census. Included in his household was his 22 year-old daughter Bertina G.

In the 1900 census, a Bertine G Koale, age 17, was a servant on the Peder Hegseth farm in Kenyon Twp, Goodhue County.

In the 1885 state census, H O Kvale, age 34, lived with his family in Wanamingo Twp, Goodhue County.
