The newspaper article describing his wedding to Ferne Jones said that Neal was a “former student at Minnesota” and, at the time of his marriage, was attending the University of Washington.

His obit:

Neil, a fifty year resident of Salem, passed away quietly on Saturday night. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Ferne, who left us in 2010.

Neil retired from a career as an engineer with the federal highway department and was active in Lion's club both before and after retirement as well as meals on wheels and the local food bank. Neil and Ferne were active members of the First Presbyterian Church for many years, particularly when their children were young, but found a spiritual home later in their lives at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Salem, where they were both members until their deaths.

During Neil's long life he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s', on tugboats on the Mississippi river, as a Medical tech during WWII, and a Civil Engineer for the BLM, then finally with the Federal Highway department. Neil graduated phi beta kappa from University of Washington in Civil Engineering. He was the first of his family with a college education thanks to the GI bill.

Neil will be greatly missed by his by his sister Margaret (Peg) Nilsen of Edmunds WA, and his children Nancy/ Derroll Matthews, Mary/John Barry, Ed/Ingrid Burghardt, and grandchildren Joanna Matthews, Ryan Burghardt, and Andrena Burghardt as well as by many friends and other family.

Duffy, George Henry of Burnsville, age 92, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his daughter's home. Born August 6, 1919 at home in Mpls. to Harry E. Duffy and Ida (Nee Janisch). Retired 20 year Navy Vet, retired Republic Airlines mechanic and an avid gardener. Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy. Survived by children, Thomas, Patricia (Allan) Bodenstab, Randal (Caroline), Valerie (Patrick) Adams and Stephanie Duffy; grandchildren, Christopher, Erica, Bradley, Jennifer, James, Joseph, Matthew and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Lukas and Zachary; brother, Leonard; sisters, Gladys, Ann and June. Funeral Service, Wednesday, 10:30 AM at Trinity First Lutheran Church, 1115 East 19th Street, Mpls. Visitation Tuesday from 4-7 PM at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave S., Bloomington, visitation also starting one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Trinity First Lutheran Church and School.

Wayne S. Ausen passed away peacefully on September 3, 2013 at the age of 81 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Mr. Ausen served in Korea and Vietnam and retired from the Navy in 1971. He then worked in civil service at North Island. Mr. Ausen was preceded in death by his wife Betty. They had been married 54 years. He is survived by his son Norman, daughter-in-law Valorie, and grand- daughter Amy, all San Diego residents. He is also survived by his brother Glen of Montana, sisters June and Fern of Minnesota and sister Lorraine of Washington State. A military service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery
