Bernt (Ben) SYVERSON

Notes:

The Johnson Family Tree, among others on Ancestry, has his parents as Nils Aarlien Syverson (1842-1921) and Agnethe Monson (1844-1933). That is not true, as the 1880 census shows.

In the 1910 census, he is Ben Syverson, a farm laborer living with his family in Farmington Twp, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. He is farm laborer “working out.”

In his 1918 draft registration, he is Bernt Severson of Ettrick in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin.

For some reason, he is erroneously called Niels Bredesen in some sources. That Niels was born in 1832 in Hof. The person who married Agnette Monsdatter is Nils Syverson.

Niels Syversen’s first wife, Berthe Thorsdatter, whom he married in 1860, died in October of 1862, probably from complications of childbirth. The baby, a girl named Theoline Beathe, died four days after her baptism.

In the 1865 census, as Nils Syversen, he is gbr on Aarlien in Næs. His wife is Agnethe Monsdatter, b. 1844, and their son in Syver Nielsen, b. 1865. Also living on Aarlien with them is Niels’s parents, Syver Nilsen, b. 1794, and Berte Jensdatter, b. 1804.

In the 1880 U.S. census, he is Niels Syverson, 48, a farmer in Farmington Twp, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. The rest of the household is his wife Agnette, 38, their daughter Beatha, 11, son Syvert, 9, Mathias, 6, Bernt, 4, Ellen, 2, and August, 2 months. The household also contains Niels’s father-in-law, Mons Larson, 74, and his mother-in-law, Bertha Larson, 64.

Niels married Agnete Monsdatter AARSRUD on 3 Mar 1865 in Næs, Hedmark, Norway. Agnete was born on 26 Sep 1843 in Ringsaker, Hedmark, Norway; died on 9 May 1928 in Polk County, Wisconsin. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Jan, as BrittaMarie, calls him Syver Nielsen Enger Ihle Fjeld.

In the 1801 census, he was Jon Jensen, 32, watchmaker and laborer, on Kircheihle in Næss og Ballishoel in Næss. The farm was owned by Gulbrand Hendrichsen. Jon’s wife was Karen Steffensdatter, 31, and it was the first marriage for both. Their children, were Johane Jonsdatter, 6, Steffen Jonsen, 4, and Ane Jonsdatter, 2. Besides Jon and the owner, there were two huusmand families on the farm.

Some sources (e.g., skatzer1) call him John Johansen.

Some sources call him Joen Jensen Fjeld.
