He registered for the draft in Becker County, Minnesota, on September 12, 1918. He was a farm laborer on the Norby farm in Lake Park. He gave Martin P. Hanson of Lakeville as his nearest relative. He was described as of medium height and build with gray eyes and light hair. (Apparently, Martin was his father.)

In the 1930 census, he was a carpenter living with his family in New Market Twp.

In the 1940 census, he was still in New Market Twp. He and his family lived in the same house in which they had lived in 1935. Henry was still a farmer. The family was listed on the census form as the next entry after the Ole Ellingboe family. Henry had one year of high school education, Sophia only through sixth grade.

Supposedly, Sophie also had a stillborn baby.

The informant for her death certificate was her husband, Henry E Nelson. She died of “sudden coronary thrombosis.” She had no Social Security number. Her father was Ole O Nelson and her mother was Selma somebody (the informant did not know).

Not living with his parents in the 1880 census. He was a 17 year-old farmhand on a farm in Eureka Twp.

According to Rose, it was this Ole Nelson (or possibly, his father) who encouraged Ove and family to come to the New Market area because you could see three church spires from there.

In the 1910 census (May 10th), he and his family live on a farm in New Market, Scott County, next door to the newly married Ole and Rose Ellingboe. He was 46 and had been married for 6 years to Selma, 37. It was the first marriage for both and Selma had had 2 children: Sofia, 4, and Oscar, 3. On the other side of them lived 50 year-old Nels Nelson, a widower, with his son Henry, 15.

In the 1930 census, he lives in New Market with his son Oscar. They are listed on the census form just after the Ole Ellingboe family. Ole is shown as a widower.

Died of valvular heart disease, chronic nephritis, and arteriosclerosis. Info on his death certificate was provided by Walter Hanson of Lakeville.

Ole married Selma NESS on 18 May 1904 in Scott County, Minnesota. Selma (daughter of Ole Olsson NÆS and Barbro Helgesdatter) was born in Aurdal i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 18 Dec 1920 in New Market Twp, Scott County, Minnesota; was buried in East Christiania Lutheran Cemetery, Eureka Twp, Dakota County, Minnesota. Various records have her birth date as 28 Jun 1872 and 17 May 1873. Neither of these can be correct if she is Mary’s sister because there was no one between Siri and Marit in the 1875 census. Selma is either Siri, born in 1870, or an as yet unidentified daughter of Ole and Barbro born after Marit. (No such daughter was found in the birth records or confirmation records.)

And she must be Mary’s sister. Mary “Nass” and her soon-to-be husband Ole were witnesses to the marriage of Selma “Nass” and Ole Nelson on 18 May 1904 at West Christiania. The church record for that marriage shows Ole Nass and Barbro Nass as the parents of Selma.

Came to this country in 1903.

She was 37 in the 1910 census (implying b. 1873). Called Felina in the 1920 census, at which time she was 46, again implying a birth in 1873.

Died of “valvular heart disease with motor paralysis of legs.” The informant for the information on her death certificate was her husband Ole.

The L Jacobson Family Tree has her birth date as 17 May 1873 and her name as Senia.

He is Ola Nilsson Tørstad, I4990, in Jim’s Ellingboe tree.

He seems to be Ola Nilsen Haugen, I25645, in Jim’s VS. For that entry, there is no further information on Ole’s wife or children. However, the VS entry shows Ole’s parents to be Nils Olsen Helle and Berit Håvardsdatter Helle.

He’s simply Ole Nelson in the French Family Tree.

The bygdebok (p. 787) calls him Ola Nilsson Tørstadeiga. He was called Ole Nilsen Ellingbø in the church book entry for Nel’s birth. He was called Ole Nielson Kattevold in the entry for Anders’s birth and for Helge’s birth and for the family’s emigration record.

Shown as Ole Nielsson in the 1865 Norwegian census. He was a “husmand med jord og smed” on the Grunkø farm in Hoved subparish in Vang parish. He was 38, his wife Sigri Olsdatter was 31, and they had two sons: Niels, 7, and Ole, 3. Grunkø, aka Grunke or Grunketeigen, was a husmannplassen under Øvre Kattevøl.

Emigrated from Vang in 1876. The departing family is listed as Ole Nielsen Kattevold, b. 2 Jun 1826, Sigrid Olsdatter, b. 15 Dec 1834, Niels, b. 14 Mar 1859, Ole, b. 25 Aug 1863, Berit, b. 26 Sep 1867, Helge, b. 18 Nov 1870, and Anders, b. 25 May 1874.

Shown as Ole Nilsen in the 1880 census. He and his family lived on a farm in New Market. The family consisted on Ole, 50, Sigri, 45, Nels, 20, Ole J., 18, Betsey, 12, Andrew, 9, Ole, 6, and Lina, 1. Everyone but Lina had been born in Norway.

In the 1885 state census, the family is in New Market. The household consists of Ole Nelson, 60, Sahra, 50, Nels, 25, Ole O., 20, Henry O., 14, Andrew, 10, and Basy, 17.

In the 1895 census, the family lives near the Ellingboes in New Market. The household consists of Ole, 70, Sigri, 60, Nels, 35, Ole, 31, Andrew, 21, Ole, 5, born in Dakota, and Henry, 6 months, born in Minnesota. Ole and his family had been in the state for 19 years, in the present enumeration district for 18 years.

In the 1900 census, he and his family are still in New Market. The household consists of Ole Nailson, 74 (b. June 1826), Sara, 65 (b. Dec 1834), Ole O., 36 (b. Aug 1863), Andrew, 26 (b. May 1874), Nails, 41 (b. 1859), Ole, nephew, 10 (b. Jan 1890), and Henry, nephew, 4 (b. Dec 1895). The youngest Ole had been born in Dakota, Henry in Minnesota, and everyone else in Norway. Sara had had 8 children, 4 still living. Ole and Sara had been married for 41 years. The family had come to the U.S. in 1876.

An Ancestry.com family tree gives her birth and death dates as 6 Dec 1835 to 6 Oct 1903. The church book shows she was born in December of 1834 but the exact day is illegible.

In the 1875 census, he and his family live on Kviteberg in Nord-Aurdal. He is a husmand med jord. He and all of the members of his family were born in Svennes. The birth years: Ole Olsen, 1837, Barbro Helgesdatter, 1835, Ole Olsen, 1861, Harald Olsen, 1865, Astri Olsdatter, 1868, Siri Olsdatter, 1870, Marit Olsdatter, 1874.

Ole and Barbro still live on a Kviteberg plass in the 1900 and 1910 censuses but none of their children live with them. In the 1910 census, they’re called Ola and Barbro Kviteberg.

Ole’s birth date, as given in the 1910 census, was 24 Jun 1835.
