Duane Joseph Kilde, 78, of Bemidji, died April 3, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2012 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. Military honors will be provided by the VFW #1260 of Bemidji. A luncheon will be served at the Bemidji Eagles Club following the service.

Duane was born April 18, 1933, in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Effie (Hultman) Kilde. He was raised and educated in the Fergus Falls area and moved to International Falls where he completed his education. He worked as a psychiatric aide at Fergus Falls State Hospital for several years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955 and was stationed in Korea. He married Dee Maurine Darst on May 15, 1954, in Beatrice, Nebraska. They moved to Bemidji. His father-in-law founded the Bemidji Fleet Distributors where Duane managed the store for many years until 1989. He then managed the Bemidji Eagles Club for a number of years. He was a fireman for the Bemidji Fire Department from 1967 - 1988. He was a member of the VFW Post #1260, the American Legion Post #14 of Bemidji, Bemidji Aerie #351, and the Moose and Elk Lodges. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and family, hunting, camping, and lately just having coffee and reminiscing about the past. His stories were always told with an entertaining blend of fiction and fact.

Duane married Dee Maurine DARST on 15 May 1953 in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Dee was born on 23 Jun 1931 in Drake, McHenry County, North Dakota; died on 26 Jul 2008 in Bemidji, Beltrami County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Dee Maurine Kilde, 77, of Bemidji died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Neilson Place in Bemidji.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Rev. James DeSmidt officiating.

She was born June 23, 1931, to Eldon and Elizabeth (Ambuehl) Darst in Drake, N.D. She moved to Bagley as a young girl with her family and later to Bemidji where she graduated from Bemidji High School and Bemidji State University with a degree in accounting. She worked with her family at Red Cap Dairy while she attended school. She married Duane Kilde on May 15, 1953, in Beatrice, Neb. Her father founded and operated the Bemidji Fleet Distributors where she worked as bookkeeper for many years until 1989. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, baking and gardening. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Duane Kilde of Bemidji; sons, Eldon Kilde of Cass Lake and David Kilde of Bemidji; sister, Barbara Hermanson of Scotsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Robin.

Joseph and Effie’s address at the time of their stillborn daughter was 809 Railroad Avenue. At that time, Joseph’s occupation was truck driver.

He and Effie and Lois lived at 806 Railroad Avenue in Fergus Falls in the 1930 census, just one house away from where Effie’s parents and younger brothers live.

He is not listed in the 1935/36 Fergus Falls city directory.

In the 1940 census, he and his family lived in Elmo Twp in Otter Tail County. He was a farmer. Joseph had an eighth-grade education, Effie had had two years of high school.

In the 1941/42 Fergus Falls city directory, Joseph and Effie live at 720 Spruce. Joseph is a salesman for Ben Kilde Motor Co.

His obit says that he was a long-time employee of Northwestern Sash and Door but that he also owned garages in Fergus Falls and International Falls, “returned here in 1948.”

Effie (daughter of John August HULTMAN and Augusta E ANDERSON) was born on 27 Aug 1905 in Milnor, Sargent County, North Dakota; died on 16 Sep 1981 in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon; was buried in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Both parents were born in Sweden. Her parents were John A. and Augusta Hultman. The family lived in Melnor, Sargent County, North Dakota, in the 1910 census.

Mrs. Joseph (Effie) Kilde, 76, formerly of 416 S. Peck, died early this morning at Bend, Ore. Services will be Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens.

The daughter of John and Augusta Hultman, she was born Aug. 27, 1905, at Milner, N.D., where she grew up. On Feb. 19, 1927, she married Joseph Kilde at Elbow Lake. The couple resided in Fergus Falls and International Falls before returning here in 1948. She was employed with Fergus Falls State Hospital for more than 21 years. In January 1971, Mr. Kilde died. Mrs. Kilde had lived with a daughter in Bend, Ore., the past two years.

She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and of the L.C.W.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Richard (Lois) Haney of Bend, Ore., Darold of San Jose, Duane of Bemidji, Dennis of Fergus Falls, and Mrs. Deland (Sharon) Bloch of Minneapolis; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Rasmussen and Mrs. Ralph (Myrtle) Nelson, both of Fergus Falls.

Memorials are preferred to Augustana Lutheran Church and to the Diabetes Foundation.

Arrangements are with Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.

Confirmed by the Aamot birth register which shows a Carsten Engebretsen born 7 Nov 1850 (and baptized 5 Jan 1851) to Engebret Bergsvensvien (sp?), apparently of Kilde, and Inger Tollefsdatter. Sponsors for the baptized child appear to be Gunder Gudmandsen, Niels Gudmandsen of Kilde, Margrethe Olsdatter of Kilde, and Oliana Gundersdatter of Kilde.
