From the 1900 census, it appears that Peter emigrated in 1879 and his wife and children followed in 1881. If so, he must have come back to Norway to get them because they all left Inderøy together in August of 1881.

In the 1885 state census, he and his family live in Fergus Falls.

He and his family lived on 2221 West Michigan Street in Duluth in the 1900 census. He was a butcher shop proprietor. His wife was a cook in a hotel, his son Sivert was a clerk in a hotel. His daughter Emma was a saleswoman. His daughter Lucy was a stenographer.

The 2221 West Michigan address was probably a boarding house or residence hotel.

John Orfald, 38, cook, and Petter Aune, 62, butcher, both of 2224 West Superior Street in Duluth, went to Norway in the early 1900s. They arrived in New York on September 1, 1904, aboard the S.S. Arriving in the U.S. with John and Petter was Ingvald Aune, age 9, a citizen of Norway, who is indicated on the Baltic’s manifest to be the “ward” of Petter. The child’s passage had been paid for by his grandfather. Petter had become a citizen by action of the District Court of St. Louis County on July 17, 1893, and John by that same authority on April 2, 1888. Ingvald is shown as going to join his mother.

In the 1910 census, the Aunes have a large extended family living at the 2221 West Michigan Street establishment. Sivert is the head of household and is married to Lollie or Lillie. He is the proprietor of the boarding house. Peter, the “father”, is a partner in a meat business. Emma, Lena, Alma, and Clara (”Kella”) are spinsters. Emma is a private nurse, Lena is a music teacher, Alma is a stenographer in an office, and Clara is a school teacher. Also living at 2221 West Michigan are John Adams and Lucie and the John and Mary Jensen family.

His wife Anna was the informant for his death certificate. His residence was 129 North 24th Avenue West in Duluth. He was a retired merchant of retail meats. He died of arterioslerosis.
