She escaped a fire at her 2nd floor apartment in Willmar in June of 1934 along with her mother, daughter, sister, and mother’s brother when a neighbor boy put a ladder to the window and got them all out before the fire department arrived. A fire in their kitchen had spread to the stairways, cutting off their escape.
