  Notes	VERNON COUNTY — A 40-year-old Viola man died early Saturday after his vehicle hit a tree Friday night north of Avalanche, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department. Jerry D. Mikkelson was pronounced dead by the Vernon County Coroner’s Office at Gundersen Lutheran hospital in La Crosse. The sheriff’s department said Mikkelson was going east on Leum Road, about one mile west of Highway S, when he lost control and went off the road. The fatal crash, the first of the year in Vernon County, was under investigation. His obit: Jerry David Mikkelson, age 40 of Viola, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, as the result of an auto accident. He was born in Janesville, Wis., on July 28, 1969, to Arden and Madonna (Clark) Mikkelson. Jerry was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua and graduated from the Viroqua High School. On Dec. 19, 2006, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Tyo. Jerry worked at Nelson Muffler prior to working at S&S Cycle and has been a welder for 15 years. He enjoyed NASCAR and has raced at the La Crosse Speedway. Jerry is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children, Zachary and Madison; mother, Madonna Buros (Gary Everson) of Soldiers Grove; brother, Jason (Kristy) of Westby; sister, Krista Buros (Billy Everson) of Viroqua; niece, Kori; nephew, Bailey; maternal grandmother, Rita Clark; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arden, July 31, 1982; stepfather, Ron Buros on March 6, 2001; paternal grandparents, Eileen and Lawrence Mikkelson; and maternal grandfather, Bernard Clark. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. Father Robert J. Cook officiated with burial in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends called on Tuesday evening, March 16, 2010, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Friends also called on Wednesday at the church before the time of the services.
