  Notes	In the 1870 census, he is probably the 16 year-old James Duffy, son of Peter, 50, and Elizabeth Duffy, 40, of Center Twp, Doniphan County, Kansas. Peter was born in Scotland, Elizabeth was born in Ireland. James’s older sibling, Mary, 18, was born in Scotland. His younger sibling, Henry, 10, was born in Kansas. In the 1880 census, he and his family farm in the Peru Precinct of Nemaha County, Nebraska. He is shown as having a father born in Scotland and a mother in Ireland. His brother-in-law, A. J. Ivers, age 30, lives with them. Both girls (”Z.E.” and Sylvia, 2 months old) are shown as having the measles. In the 1900 census, he is a railroad yardman, living with his family in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the 1910 census, he is a widower. He still lives in Lincoln and still works for the railroad, now as a signalman. Ralph and Francis live with him. In the 1920 census, as James “Duffey”, he is a roomer with a family in Lincoln. He is a flagman for the railroad. In this census, he shows his father as born in Scotland and his mother in Ireland.
