    Notes
    • In the 1905 state census, Daniel and “Cathrina” farm in Grand Lake Twp, St. Louis County, Minnesota.

The 22 year-old Joseph Engman, born in Sweden, occupation illegible but it could be tailor, is listed immediately before Daniel on the 1905 state census form. That Joseph Engman had been in the local enumeration district for a month so perhaps he is also the 22 year-old Joseph Engman, a tailor born in Sweden, living in Minneapolis in the 1905 state census. The Minneapolis Engman had been in Minnesota for 4 years but the entry for how long he had been in the enumeration district is blank. That Joseph Engman is a Salvation Army Captain in Everett, Washington, in the 1920 census. He is not listed in the 1930 census but, in that census, there are two Engman families on the same census page as Hannah Kohs in Grand Lake Twp. Joseph Engman registered for the draft in 1918 in Seattle. His birth date was given as 23 February 1883 in Sweden. His closest relative was Johnson Engman, father, in Sweden (Vixoy? Vexoy?). Joseph’s occupation was tailor. The Engmans were related to a sister of Daniel Kohs. (Charles Engman’s wife Minnie may have been a sister of Daniel.)

According to the 1910 census Daniel came to the U.S. in 1893. In the 1910 census he was a farmer in Grand Lake Twp, St. Louis County.

As Daniel Kohs in the St. Louis County death index. As David Kohs in the MHS death index. As “Augus Kohs” in his son Albin’s obituary.

He died of mitral stenosis. The informant for his death certificate was Will Engman of Saginaw, Minnesota.
