He, with his family, lived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, at the time of that country’s 1916 census.

Calvin and Bertha lived in Muskegon, Michigan, in the 1940 census. Calvin was a shipping foreman for a firm that sold wholesale sheep hides.

They lived in Norwood, Massachusetts, in 1942.

He is in a San Antonio newspaper photograph of 6 Jan 1948 standing in front of a tanner vat where a worker died.

The Devendorfs first appear in the Oshkosh city directories in 1953. The last entry is August of 1964.

In the 1960 Oshkosh city directory, he and Bertha lived at 1009 Ceape Ave. Calvin was president-treasurer of Oshkosh Tanning Co. Their daughter was called Karen in that directory and she was listed as a student.

Calvin was president of his church (Christ Lutheran, Oshkosh) congregation in 1964.

His spiritual life was an interesting story. He was raised Christian Scientist although not strictly. He had no real faith due to a rough childhood. He married a Lutheran, Bertha. They sent Caren to Sunday School and she took her dad with one Sunday. After that he became a believer and became an outstanding self educated Biblical scholar, giving sermons, Bible studies, etc.  He built St. Phillips Lutheran in Hastings, literally and figuratively. He was a charter member and also built the altar and cross. He was an interesting man with a great story.
