Oddly, although Helma did live to be over 100, there was an article in the 17 Oct 1989 edition of the La Crosse Tribune that had a photo of the twins, Helen and Helma, celebrating their 100th birthday! Sadly, Helen did not make it to 100.

There were at least two other babies named Knud Olaus born in 1859 in the Kvernes parish.

He and his wife came to the U.S. in 1886 and they were married that year. His marriage record indicates he was a shoemaker.

In the 1900 census, he and his family lived in La Crosse. He was a laborer for a saw mill.

In the 1910 census, he and his family lived in La Crosse. He was a fireman for a gas company.

His Find A Grave entry has his birth date as 22 Sep 1859.

His obit, as posted by landjevans:

Knut Smevog, foreman for the Wisconsin-Minnesota Light and Power Company for sixteen years, passed away yesterday afternoon at his home, 1523 Farman street, of a complication of diseases. He had been ill for six months. Mr. Smevog has been a resident of La Crosse for thirty years.

He was born in Norway fifty-six years ago, coming to this country when a young man. He has been an active member of Our Savior's Norwegian Lutheran Church at Sixth and Division streets since his arrival in La Crosse more than a quarter century ago.

Surviving him are his widow and eight children, Mrs. Carl Jungbluth, and a son Paul of Washington, Iowa; Pauline, Emily, Olaf, Helen, Helma and Herbert, all of La Crosse. He also leaves two brothers, Martin Smevog of this city and one in Norway.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, and at 2:30 from Our Savior's church.  Rev. H. G. Magelssen will oficiate, and burial will be made in Oak Grove cemetery.

Kristianna (daughter of Peder Ellingsen BAE and Elisabeth Halvorsdatter GUSTAD) was born on 15 May 1861 in Kvernes, Averøy, Møre og Romsdal, Norway; died on 30 Oct 1938 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin; was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. In the 1900 census, she had had 7 children, all still alive.

In the 1920 census, she was the head-of-household at 1523 Farnam Street in La Crosse. Still at home with her were Emily, Helen, Helma. and Herbert. The only person with a job was Emily, a stenographer at a rubber factory.

Her obit had her survived by five daughters and two sons and 20 grandchildren. She was also survived by two sisters, Hannah and Ellen, and a brother Erling, all back in Norway.

Peder was the gaardbruger and selveier of the Bae 201a farm in Bremsnes, Kvernes in the 1865 census.

Peder Ellingsen is shown as the owner of the parcel (new 72-5, old 123-201a) of Ba (”also written Bae”) farm in Bremsnes.

Peder and his wife Elisabet Halvorsdatter live on their son’s Bae 72/5 farm in Bremsnes in the 1910 Norwegian census.

Magnar calls him Peder Ellingson Ba, b. 1831.

According to the MyHeritage Furø Web Site, Peder died in 1917.

According to the MyHeritage Furø Web Site, Elisabet died on Averøy in 1911.
