In the 1930 census, he is a farm laborer in Marion Twp, Bowman County, North Dakota.

In the 1940 census, he is a laborer for a WPA project. He and his family live in Springvale Twp, Isanti County.

His obit in the Star on 7 Aug 1979 said that he was survived by his wife Mabel H., son Allen, and 8 daughters: Delores Mattson (Gordon), Jane Smith (Gordon), Audrey Sweeney (Terrance), Norma Leonard (Theodore), Annette Larson (George), Mona Findell (Eugene), Muriel and Marlys. He was also survived by his sisters Mrs. Lilly Anderson and Mrs. Mary Ratfield, along with 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Henry married Mabel Helen FINDELL on 7 Mar 1919 in Isanti County, Minnesota. Mabel (daughter of Erick Duane FINDELL and Betsy OLSON) was born on 20 Apr 1900 in Isanti County, Minnesota; died on 10 Apr 1994 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He is the Jonas Olof Olofsson Berglöf who left Sweden for the U.S. in 1869 with his parents and brother. That Jonas Olof was born 22 Feb 1854 in Ilsbo, Gävleborg, Sweden. He was baptized 26 Feb 1854 and his parents were Olof Jonsson Berglof and Brita Pehrsdotter.

In the 1875 Minnesota census, he was 21 and living in Isanti County with his parents and brother.

In the 1900 census, he is a farmer in Isanti County.

In the 1910 census, he is Ole Berglof, still on his farm in Wyanett Twp, Isanti, County, now a 53 year-old widower. All of his children are living with him as is his brother Andrew, a 58 year-old bachelor.

In the 1920 census, he is living with his son Henry and family in Wyanett, Isanti County.

The Vigselbok for Rättvik, 1867, clearly shows that, on March 25, 1867, Mårs Erik Ersson of Wikarbyn, b. 1843, married something (looks like Snit) Brita Andersdatter of Sätra, born 1846. It was the first marriage for each.

In the 1880 U.S. census, he was Erick Erickson, age 36, a farm laborer living with his family in Spring Vale Twp, Isanti County. The rest of the household is Betsy, 33, Betsy, 9, Annie, 3, and Erick, 6 months. The next family on the census form is Daniel H Findall, 57, his wife Betsy, 58, and children Erick and Betsy.

In the 1885 Minnesota census, he was S.E. Erickson, age 41, living with his family in Springvale Twp, Isanti County, Minnesota. The rest of the household was Mrs. Bessy Erickson, 38, Betsy Erickson, 14, Anna Erickson, 8, Erick Erickson, 5, Mary Erickson, 3, and Clara Erickson, 0. The two youngest had been born in Minnesota, the rest were born in Sweden.

He is referred to as S.E. Erickson. An article in the Princeton Union says that he was thrown from a load of straw and killed when the hind wheel of the wagon rolled over the top part of his head and crushed his skull.

Another article in the Princeton Union says that Eric Erickson was “strawing” the road near Spectacle Lake in Spring Vale. He fell off the wagon “and in falling came in contact with the horses. The frightened team ran away and the wheels passed over the unfortunate man’s head killing him almost instantly.”

There is confusion about this Britta. The First Lutheran Church record for the Household Examination for Hans Findell calls her Brita Olsdotter with her birthday as 16 Oct 1843. The household examination for the Hans Findell family that calls her the 1843 Brita Olsdotter also clearly shows her as the mother of Erik Erikson 1879, Maria Carolina Erikson 1881, Clara Christina Erikson 1885, and Emma Erikson 1886.

In the 1880 census, as a very recently arrived immigrant, she is Betsy Erickson, age 33.

In the 1895 Minnesota state census, she is Betsy Findel, age 48, the wife of Hans Findel, age 50. They live on a farm in Spring Vale Twp, Isanti County. The rest of the household is Eric Erickson, 15, Mary Erickson, 14, Clara Erickson, 10, Emma Erickson, 8, Daniel Findel, 72 and an invalid, and Brita Findel, 73.

In the 1900 census, she was Brita Findell, age 53, still living in Spring Vale Twp with her husband Hans and her children Erick, Maria, Clara, and Emma, all of whom have the surname Findell on the census form. She has had 8 children, 5 still living. She came to the U.S. in 1880.

Thus, all of these censuses, as well as the marriage record, agree that the Brita involved here is Brita Andersdotter who was born in 1846. The DeGriselles Family Tree agrees that the mother of those Erickson children was Britta Andersdotter 1846. We’ll probably never know how this confusion arose. Hans Findell did later marry a Brita Olsdotter but that was much later and to a much younger Brita.
