“He is marrying his brother’s widow after having made her pregnant shortly after his brother’s death!”

They are probably the Ole Olson family in Deerfield, Dane County, in the 1860 census. That family consists of Ole, 31, a farm laborer, Julia, 35, Knut, 9, Ann, 4, and Ole, 2. Living with them (or else the family with whom they are living) is the Stark Peterson family which consists of Stark, 49, a day laborer, Ellen, John 5, and Peter 3. Everyone in both families had been born in Norway except for the two-year-old Ole.

May be the Ole O. and Guri Jome or Jorne farming in Ettrick Twp, Trempealeau County, in the 1880 census. This couple had a 21 year-old son named Ole as well as several younger children. We’ll assume that they’re a match and use that information here.

Ole married Guri Torgersdatter TÜF in Apr 1858. Guri (daughter of Torgeir Torgeirsen TÜF and Anne Knudsdotter KAARSTAD) was born on 27 Feb 1828 in Tüf, Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

She is probably the Gura Jome, a 74 year-old widow living by herself in Ettrick Twp, Trempealeau County, in the 1900 census. There were no other Jomes living in that county. She claimed to have been born in February of 1826 and she claimed to have had 5 children, 3 still living.

In a transcribed list of baptisms from the Slidre church book records, Torger (christened 9 Oct 1791) was the illegitimate son of Torger Olson Windingstad and Barbro Knudsdotter. He was a soldier and she was a "pige".

His father had another illegitimate son name Torgeir in 1800.

In 1795, Barbro married Lars Gullikson Tüf and her son Torger Torgerson must have been raised on the Tüf farm. In the 1801 Census Torger was age 9, living with Lars Gullichsen and his wife Barbroe Knudsdatter in Røens Annex, Slidre, Christians Amt.

It is reasonable to assume that he became the crofter on the plot of land on the farm Tüf, in V. Slidre, that had a crofter's place that was once called Torgersplassen. It is now 84/2 Moen. Torger's son, Knut Torgersson, bought it in 1856 and sold it to Ole Knutsen Robøle (Raabøle) from Øystre Slidre in 1859. 

Torgeir married Anne Knudsdotter KAARSTAD on 17 Jan 1819 in Slidre i Valdres, Oppland, Norway. Anne (daughter of Knud Tollevsen and Anne Iversdatter) was born about 1794 in Slidre i Valdres, Oppland, Norway. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
